Nuance and context, but just for me
There is a special species of hypocrisy oft exhibited by ideologues and pundits: a person makes an outrageous, insulting, thoughtless, or simply foolish statement. When called out for it, he chastises his critics for their failure to  understand and appreci...

More handwaving from Reza Aslan
In the very first sentence of this interview on The Young Turks, Aslan claims that he does not read Sam Harris’ writings. He then proceeds to criticize Harris and modern atheism at length, making several deliberate misrepresentations: Atheism is an intracta...

I listened to the interview because up until recently, Aslan seemed more sane. Now, I'm of the impression he's advocating for religion as a way of giving people a way of seeking meaning in their lives and a common identity to create community. That's basically every reason for which I dislike religion. This think speak where indoctrination is some initiation into adult culture. There should always be room for deviation from the norm, everything else promotes a lack of creativity and ability to think for one's self.

I really thought he had a deeper perspective on religion, but I think he's stuck in the track of looking for meaning when the meaning, even if it is there, is completely irrelevant.

Suffer these indignities stoically
Men who entreat us to remember that ‘not all
men’ are wicked fail to understand something fundamental about people:
we humans learn from experience — the more intense the experience, the
more indelible the lesson. We also make generalizatio ns

Reasonable fear, self defense, and murder
An article in the CSMonitor reviews the state of stand-your-ground laws in the U.S. Here’s a salient quotation from criminologist and gun policy expert Edward

Occam’s Blender
This week’s debate between Bill Nye and Ken Ham , was predictably uneventful, with the participants talking past each other  most of the time. This was not surprising at all. Nye is a scientist, and Ham is a mystic. Their world views are incompatible. A wis...

Why you should stop using the word ‘mansplaining’
In a post from last week, Melissa A. Fabello of Everyday Feminisim offers 5 Simple Ways Men Can Better Respect Women . I like her suggestions, but I do have one quibble: Fabello uses the gendered pejorative ’mansplaining’ to describe the phenomenon wherein ...

Difference between LEFT and RIGHT Outer Join in SQL
One of the most confusing concept to master in SQL is Joins, I find it quite similar to Recursion, some heads picks it up naturally but others can't even after lot of practice. This is one reason why Join is popular on any SQL interviews. One of the frequently asked question is Difference between RIGHT and LEFT Outer join, some will simply ask difference, others will ask you to write query. In Outer Join, non-matching records are also included in final result and depending upon, whether you are using RIGHT or LEFT outer join, non-matching rows from corresponding tables are included and for null is used to fill values for columns which comes from other table.  See more here http://javarevisited.blogspot.com/2013/05/difference-between-left-and-right-outer-join-sql-mysql.html
