Exit Glacier is the main attraction at Kenai Fjords National Park given its easy accessibility and location from the park's main entrance. As you drive in, signs simply labeled with incrementing years mark the glacier's terminus dating back dozens and dozens of years, hammering in just how much this particular glacier has retreated in a relatively short window. This particular shot was taken in 2006, when I last visited the area. I'd be very interested to see just how much more it's melted since then.

I was only just learning photography back then, so you can see the few other photos I've remained happy with over the years from that time in my Alaska Gallery here: https://www.freeroamingphotography.com/alaska

An evening on Mormon Row - the old homestead in the heart of the valley of Jackson Hole, Wyoming dates back to the 1800's, and only in the last month was fully restored to Grand Teton National Park. Each historic property along the dirt road is a landmark set against the dramatic backdrop of the Teton Mountains' eastern face. To see more of homestead, check out my Grand Teton National Park Gallery here: https://www.freeroamingphotography.com/grand-teton

High on the list of places to return to: Crack Canyon and the San Rafael Swell in central Utah. This fascinating landscape is home endless hiking and recreational opportunities that would easily rival any of Utah's other five national parks, and naturally, is in jeopardy of mismanagement from poor protections. This is a place worth getting excited about. See it in person as soon as you can, but for now, check out more photos in my San Rafael Swell Gallery here: https://www.freeroamingphotography.com/san-rafael-swell

Fajada Butte at Chaco Culture National Historic Park (better known as Chaco Canyon) is a prominent feature of the park. Near its summit, it has astoundingly accurate astronomical ruins that are still predicting current celestial events. The site was closed off to the public in the 1980s, however, due to accelerated erosion from excessive tourism.

Hawaii may be getting all the attention right now, but the United States has a pretty violent volcanic history, particularly in the southwest. One such site that captures that historic beauty is El Malpais National Monument in western New Mexico. The Sandstone Bluffs make for a great vantage point to stand above the ancient lava flow stretching out to the horizon.

A winding trail leads through native grasses toward the towering Bear Lodge, aka Devil's Tower. Bear Lodge is the original name given to the igneous spire by the natives who have visited the site for countless generations.

The Bighorn Basin lies in Wyoming's high desert, east of Yellowstone National Park, and is home to not only feral descendants of Buffalo Bill's own horses, but also colorful and eroding badlands that rival anything in Badlands National Park.
