MUST READ!

"Children born of 'stranger assisted reproductive technologies' have parent(s) who are strangers to the parent(s) who contract for their existence. The child should have no less right to know and be supported by these parents. We euphemistically call them donors and surrogates. The reality is they are sellers (of sperm and egg) and parents... biological flesh and blood parents and no contract should deny children their rights to their parent(s)."

This is a fascinating short documentary (9 min), produced for a sperm bank, that follows a 13 year old boy as he goes to meet some of his half siblings.

Notice, in particular, the difference in both the tone and content of what the kids say and what the mom at the end says.

Four positions on surrogacy, all are either wrong, really wrong, or not quite as wrong as the others. What's glaringly absent is the baby and the best interest of the baby. This is all about should surrogates get paid or not. Are they being exploited or not. Has proper informed consent being given or not. Are the rights of the intended parents and the surrogate protected or not. But what about the children? http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2014/09/22/hiring-a-woman-for-her-womb

A quote from "Breeders?" was yesterday's New York Times QUOTATION OF THE DAY!

"I was crying. I said he has to come in; he's the father; he should be here. He came in, he cut the cord. He took the baby. And that's the last I ever heard from them."

HEATHER RICE, a surrogate who carried a child with a defect, describing giving birth over the biological parents' objections. From breeders.cbc-network.org
