A blogger friend asked me to write something I learned this year for his end-of-year round-up. So I did http://feelinglistless.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/review-2014-one-thing-alison-gow.html?m=1

I had no idea the #bringbackourgirls images were taken without consent - and the ethical and reputation problems it caused for the photographer really is a fascinating read.
I am also interested to see that she now warns subjects their photos will be freely seen on the internet - maybe that kind of explication is something we need to consider as journalists when writing stories too
"This is not the story of a misappropriated image gone viral. This is the story of what happened next"...

Journo blog: If you want to make something succeed you have to advocate for that thing as hard as you can, doubly so if you’re doing it in the face of doubt or uncertainty. http://alisongow.com/2014/06/10/innovation-and-the-perils-of-yes-but-2/

DEN was a font of ideas and brilliant speakers but I did hear the word 'cardification' a little too often. And, yes, David Dinsmore did claim The Sun invented listicles. Anyway, this is a great idea from Talk About Local...
Had a great day down at the #VisualDen event in London this week. As well as getting the opportunity to talk a bit about #AR (augmented reality) we heard from people we wouldn't generally bump into eg. The Sun's editor. His presentation about 20 sec video news and others about short form (cards will be the new listicles apparently) is incredibly challenging but also a little scary. Let's have all sorts of forms, keep the long reads alongside the fun of the ever shorter. So in a post-breakfast fit of inspired enthusiasm, we've floated that at Talk About Local. Will you join us?

Moved my blog to a new home and posted some thoughts sparked by the VisualDEN meet up.

Social media has wrecked my blog*
I am a lazy blogger but it's not my fault. Twitter and Diigo are to blame for my indolence, and Blogger has a part to play in it too.  You see, it's so easy to just tweet a link, perhaps with a (very) short opinion, or save it to Diigo and get that site to ...

This was an interesting one; not sure how it went but it was great to get to talk about this subject to editors

Social media monitoring and analytics (infographic)
Not 100% sure who I owe a hat tip to for tweeting a link to this infographic about social media monitoring (I suspect  David Thackeray  though). It is exceptionally useful, anyway, and I thought I would store it on my blog as it's a reference source I will ...
