There are many different options when purchasing plastic bags for your retail outlet but the main things to consider are where your bags will end up and how you can be more responsible for ensuring your bags don't add to the worlds expanding litter problem. The two most popular options are listed below but please get in touch if you have any further questions info@alphapackaging.co.uk or call 01235 511500
Biodegradable bags - break down in water, carbon dioxide and biomass, it is done using an additive (D2W, EPI) added to the polythene during manufacture. Biodegradation is the breakdown of materials by microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi or other biological activity. Biodegradation can occur in different time frames under different circumstances, but is meant to occur naturally without human intervention. These bags are presently the most economical option and can be used to create almost any style of bag or polythene.

Compostable bags – is a process using natural plant starch materials to create the bags. Compostable bags break down readily through microbial activity to form compost. Additionally, the end product of composting not only returns to its previous state, but also generates and adds beneficial microorganisms to the soil called humus. This organic matter can be used in gardens and on farms to help grow healthier plants in the future. Composting can be done at home in your food waste bin or commercially. At present these bags are still in development but are available as vest carrier bags with a minimum order quantity of 100,000.

There are also many different options to standard plastic bags including; #paper bags, #Bags made of 95% recycled plastic bottles, #recycled carrier bags, #recyclable bags, #jute bags, #cotton bags
