Gender inequality and misogyny have been fiercely brought into the limelight this year with the seemingly endless stream of sexual harassment allegations and the #MeToo movement. At the 60th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, guests were told to wear a white rose to show their support for #MeToo.  With such a large focus set on gender inequalities and mistreatments in society, a diminutive 11 of 84 awards were won by women, “SZA, the most-nominated female act, went home without a single award”, writes Forbes staff member, Zack O’Malley Greenburg, but this isn’t really that surprising. Institutionalized misogyny has affected not only the music industry, but the TV and film industry as well. In the last five years at the Grammy’s, just 9.3% of nominees were female. But the issue isn’t just that women aren’t receiving the recognition they deserve when it comes to awards, there is also an obvious underrepresentation of women in the business/corporate department of the music industry.

The lack of women in the offices promotes a self-perpetuating cycle of discrimination. Companies and award shows that continue to neglect female involvement just might find themselves running out of business. When Greenburg spoke to Kim Kaupe, alum and cofounder of ZinePak, about the issue, she said, "I'm not going to keep begging and asking and begging and asking to have a seat at your table… I’m gonna go build another table or I'm gonna find other tables that let me have a seat." Despite the discouraging statistics and the abrupt underrepresentation of women in the music industry, knowledge surrounding the issue continues to be brought forward.

The more well known the issue is, the quicker change can be achieved. Although it seems that institutions and society are bent on keeping women down, some strides have been made. Dr. Stacy Smith, coauthor of a study on gender and ethnicity in the music industry took a close analytical look at the 600 most popular songs in the last five years. She and her colleague found that only 22.4% of those performers were women, but amongst those 22.4%, half were nonwhite. Women recognize women, and diversity amongst female performers is thriving. Together they can rise up and create something beautiful. The Nintendo Labo is Nintendo’s newest accessory for their popular Switch console. The Labo is undoubtedly a new and interesting concept for an attachment, as each of the Labo sets requires the player to put together the cardboard accessory rather than it being premade. Manually assembling the accessory teaches the mostly young users of the console some basic crafting and construction skills that can be applied to their lives. The Nintendo Labo piano allows the user to create a small piano that the console can be placed inside so certain music-based games and piano teaching programs can be played. Recently, famous composer Ramin Djawadi demonstrated the abilities of this piano accessory and program.

Djawadi is a prolific composer for film and television, writing the music for projects such as Iron Man, Warcraft, and Pacific Rim to name a few. Djawadi used the Nintendo Labo piano to play one of his most well-known pieces, the theme of the hit show Game of Thrones, which has received substantial critical acclaim for being one of the best-opening themes on TV right now. Before being given this challenge, Djawadi had no experience with the Nintendo Switch console, let alone the accessory. Yet, after only a short amount of time, the famous composer was able to work out how to play his song on the faux instrument. Djawadi’s ability to perform his renowned composition beautifully on the Nintendo Labo piano shows just how useful the device can be in getting kids into learning how to play piano for real.

When a player is ready to move on from the Labo to a real instrument, Canyon Entertainment Academy is the perfect place to receive the training they will need. The Academy has a team of passionate and talented teachers ready to share their knowledge of playing an instrument and how to be successful in the music industry with the next generation of musicians.

After stepping out of the spotlight a few years ago, Sugarland is back and ready to rock the charts. After releasing their first single, “Still the Same” since reuniting towards the end of 2017, the group was understandably disappointed with the results. As a duo whose singles have regularly catapulted straight to the Top 10 charts in the past, watching “Still the Same” appear on only a handful of charts around the country came as a wakeup call. Sugarland knew they needed something big, so they reached out to one of the biggest songwriting and performing stars in the music industry, Taylor Swift. With superstar Swift by their side, Sugarland has released a collaborative single in hopes of receiving the praise and attention they have been searching for. Swift originally wrote the song for her last country-pop album Red back in 2012 but withheld releasing it. Now, Sugarland has taken the song under their wing.

The new single, “Babe”, contains the attitude, catchy lyrics, and country-pop beat that has catapulted Swift’s songwriting and music into stardom, “it already sounds like a future chart-topper, which is what this comeback deserves” writes Forbes contributor, Hugh McIntyre. Sugarland lovers may argue that the song is too saturated with Swift’s vocals and flair, but she features as a backup singer with vocals embedded into the track while the primary lyrics are sung by the duo. With Sugarland’s desirable twang paired “…with Taylor Swift’s lyrical suave and brand attached to their latest project, there’s a good chance that ‘Babe’ will return Sugarland to their former glory”, states McIntyre. It seems that the group has set themselves up to rule the country music kingdom once again.

Refreshing and catchy lyrics are a vital ingredient to any song. Understanding your target audience base and pinpointing a songwriting method are just two important steps up the flight to writing first-rate lyrics. The Canyon Entertainment Academy is a program that offers young and aspiring songwriters the chance to harbor and expand their lyrical talents.

Along with songwriting, the Canyon Entertainment Academy offers courses in vocal lessons, instrumental lessons, and choreography and stage management to ensure that students are exposed to every aspect of the performing arts. This program is led by knowledgeable and devoted instructors eager to teach upcoming musicians. Along with harboring musical talents, the academy promotes empowerment and positivity. The Canyon Entertainment Academy is a holistic and essential program for any child with a passion for music and performing.

In this day and age, the average person’s attention span has taken a significant drop. Children are especially prone to this as modern technology grows in advancement and accessibility and they spend more and more time with their electronic devices than they do in the real world. This makes it especially crucial when raising a child to ensure their social and emotional skills are developing in a healthy manner.

Most people are already aware that taking music lessons can increase a child’s IQ and help them do better in school. Many parents, however, might not be aware of another major benefit of private music lessons that goes a long way in improving a child’s overall social and emotional well being: "the undivided attention from a caring adult helping the child to learn in a safe and quiet setting." Namely, personalized one-on-one instruction where the instructor focuses his full undivided attention on the child.

Very much like a personal tutor for school, private music lessons offer personalized one-on-one instruction in which the teacher is focused only on your child. For a child there's really nothing else like it. Children that regularly receive full, undivided positive attention and care from adults tend to have far fewer behavioral problems and are generally much better off.

Everyone benefits from personalized one-on-one instruction. This approach not only works wonders for children but also puts the parents at ease. To learn more, visit the source material at the Post Crescent website. Every parent wants the best for their children and every child is different, so if you have a child that's interested in music, consider enrolling them in private music lessons.

Canyon Entertainment Group is committed to helping your child reach his or her full musical and artistic potential. 8 Useful Tips For Starting a Career in Music Production
This article provides key advice for graduates with music degrees who are looking to pursue careers in music production. It seems like it can be pretty cut and dry to find a job, but it's not as easy as some would think. There are many challenges out there and you need to prepare yourself for disappointments. But worry not, because here are eight useful tips to help you when starting a career in music production.Doing whatever it takes to gain real industry experience. Music internships, no matter what kind and whether they are paid or unpaid are excellent avenues for gaining experience for how things operate in the music business. What can be taken from this is either experience or connections, with the latter being perhaps the most important thing to have in music.Take the time out to establish who you are and what your goals in music are. This can be anything from your sound as an artist to figuring out exactly what you want to do in music. You should also focus your energy on developing a good character that will take you places in future.Think outside of the box. Everybody wants to be associated with the big companies, but isn’t everyone in the same slot already? It also seems to raise the competition bar higher, making it harder for everyone else. All it takes is that one creative who dared to be different to discover a new lane to success. Rather than focusing on the mainstream companies that provide a lot of competition, you should concentrate on other successful ones out there across publishing, digital distribution, touring, and even merchandising, that will easily take you in considering that they don’t get frequent knocks from music graduates who want to join them.Listen to your parents but take control of your own career. What may have worked for your parents when they were coming up may not yield the same results for you, but it's all about taking pieces from them and combining it with your thoughts.Consistency is key. We all here about the overnight success stories, but it may seem as if it happened overnight to us because we only see the end result. It's extremely rare to experience being an overnight success, and that's why it gets so much coverage by the media when it actually happens. The majority of us will have to go through years of trying to perfect our craft and getting knocked down, whether it be financially, mentally or even physically; but giving up once things get tough will never bear the results that we seek. It ain't easy, but nothing that's worth it is.Don't ever think that you have to be a one-man band. Seek help from your friends, whether they can help you directly or indirectly. Sometimes we just need assurance from someone letting us know that they like what we're doing. The biggest confidence booster is when someone tells us they’ve seen growth in our craft, especially when they do is spontaneously. Try to network with people who share your same goals and who will motivate you to do your best. Try your hardest to find a mentor. No more needs to be said. This is the best way to get your foot in the door. It's easier said than done, but always remember that in the music industry it's about who you know and not what you know.Lastly, try your best. As long as you feel satisfied with where you have come then that is all that matter. Keep your options open, explore different avenues and try your best at them. This will give you th best chance to succeed. Never stay close minded. Open up your eyes and ears to the different possibilities that music can bring. Keep these tips in mind and you'll be surprised at the supporters that want to see you succeed.Check out these tips in full and contact us at canyonentertainmentgroup(at)gmail.com.
