Network Services has been able to reroute some data and telephone traffic which resulted in Sanger Hall and Smith Building data and telephone service being restored. In order to reconnect Hunton Hall and Theater Row there will have to be a repair to the fiber line which is underway. It is not expected that this work will be completed until this evening. Hunton Hall and Theater Row will be without data and telephone service until this repair is completed.
Network Services is reporting that the MCV campus is experiencing a disruption of data and telephone service which is impacting a number of buildings including Sanger Hall and Theater Row. Network staff is working to identify the cause and will work toward a resolution once the cause has been identified. Automated enrollment processes for Blackboard have caused all students to be temporarily un-enrolled from their Blackboard courses. The problem began around 5:30 a.m. We are working with Blackboard support engineers to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. More information will be posted as it comes available. Network Services has found that there has been a fiber cut. They are working to repair but we do not have an ETA at this time. We will post an ETA when available. Buildings affected include all of Sanger Hall, Theater Row, Hunton Hall and part of Smith Building. We hit 4.7 Gbps during the iOS 8 download peak this afternoon. Last year we hit around 4 Gbps so thank goodness for the bandwidth upgrades by Network Services this past year. Network did not seem to have any issues during this event.
