Review: Kinkoo Infinite One 8000mAh Portable Battery Backup - Regular readers will know that I'm a big fan of the Proporta emergency chargers, from the tiny credit card sized Pocket Power to the mighty Turbocharger 7000. But, of course, there are many other brands on the market, especially at the higher capacity end of the market. Which is why I've been taking a look here at the new 'Kinkoo Infinite One 8000mAh Portable Backup Battery Charger'. In white. And yes, the co... http://ow.ly/2FZyH3

Microsoft to manage nokia.com and social sites for up to a year http://ow.ly/2FTUav
As one of the biggest tech buyouts (at least, in terms of impact in mobile) comes a close this week, Microsoft and Nokia have been sharing some of the last minute amendments to the deal. Including one whereby Microsoft will effectively take over nokia.com and its various social media domains and sites for 'up to' a year. Given that Nokia will still exist as a company and that Microsoft is only buying the 'Devices' section, this latest amendment d...

Nine years before the iPad, Nokia's 'Symbian' M510... - Widely reported today after the publishing of a Finnish book, 'The Decline and Fall of Nokia", is that there was a Symbian-running Internet tablet back in 2001, that made it into very limited production, with some details revealed below. Well, kind of Symbian - in fact, this ran EPOC, the same touch-screen OS that powered the Psion palmtops, including the netBook and Series 7. Over the next four years, EPOC was tak... http://ow.ly/2FKNCr

AppList fixes and extra translations - Anyone starting AppList today may be puzzled by an update to the popular Symbian app store client with a completely blank changelog! This, it turns out, is a bug in the previous version (these things happen), so tap on that 'Download' button and you'll soon have v1.0 Build 285 installed and working happily. And, hopefully, a visible changelog for future updates! http://ow.ly/2FEjDX

AppList gains new languages, categories, bug fixes - Almost a weekly happening now, the AppList 'store' for Symbian for 2014 has been updated again, withnew languages, categories, bug fixes. You can update simply by opening the AppList client, you should end up on v1.0 build 288. AppList continues to add just the very best of Symbian applications and it's now by far the best starting point for anyone setting up a new Symbian smartphone. http://ow.ly/2FWBMq

'2048' for Symbian - Aha - so THAT's why AppList, the 2014 app store for Symbian, hasn't had any updates or new apps for a week. The developer was busy writing a new game(!) '2048' is a popular Flash game (and rewritten for other mobile OS) and its tile value combining action is now available as a native freeware title on Symbian. See below. http://ow.ly/2FSY07

Whatsapp updates continue, redesigned chat UI - Whatsapp, despite being a pretty core Symbian application for many people, hasn't been in the Nokia Store for many months, so the freezing of the latter didn't cause it to skip a beat. For complicated reasons (my SIM keeps switching devices, essentially), I can't really use Whatsapp at all, but I did get notified by Nilanjan Dubeyabout a major new version, 2.11.461, bringing "Major UI changes within chat, and the option to... http://ow.ly/2FKNCs

How to: The Art of Xenon - Having a 'proper' Xenon flash in your smartphone (we're talking Nokia 808 and Lumia 1020 here) doesn't necessarily give you better low light shots of people - you have to know how to use the technology to best effect too. After criticism from some quarters about 'missed shots', I thought a 'how to' guide to Xenon might be in order, whichever of Nokia's flagship camera phones you own. http://ow.ly/2FKGUU

Project Ara a glimpse of one possible smartphone future - File this one very definitely under 'don't hold your breath', not least because you're reading this on AAS and AAWP, neither of which platforms will see anything close to this anytime soon. But it's very definitely 'of interest' to anyone with a penchant for smartphones in general. Google's 'Project Ara' is looking to create a genuinely modular smartphone, in which you can swap around modules to a certain degree.... http://ow.ly/2FA1Al
