Congrats to the CBS team! This will be huge for our customers. #Rackspace #OpenStack
+Rackspace Hosting just announced cloud block storage. See below.

What the heck is that? Why is it important?

It makes building companies and products that use storage easier and more flexible.

Why is it important? It's another signal to entrepreneurs that +OpenStack  is starting to pay fruit. Open source cloud means many companies can work together to build new features. These features are more secure, more scalable, more flexible, and have less lockin since other companies can offer the same block storage features that Rackspace is announcing today and build them with the same code base.

It's like what we're seeing with Android vs. iOS. Android's market share and capabilities have passed those of iOS because an entire industry can work together on Android where with iOS we have to wait for one company to innovate.

Two years ago I wrote that OpenStack was significant (that blog is at http://scobleizer.com/2010/07/18/rackspace-announces-opensource-cloud/ ). Even I had no idea just how significant it would be and today you're seeing yet another example.

Nik Software Announces HDR Efex Pro 2
Great news!  +Nik Software  has just released a new version of their killer   #HDR   #Photography  software-  HDR Efex Pro 2.  They’ve got a new tonemapping algorithm, some sweet speed increases, and a new interface.  Rather than me sit here and just go on and on about it, I figured it be a neat idea to just walk you through the process with one of my files. The next couple posts i'll share what i've been doing with the program so far so you can see how well it handles the files.

Here at +NAPP we were offered a shot to get it a little early along with a discount.  This link takes you to the NIk page where theyre offering 40 bucks off the full price (10 bucks off an upgrade) and a few days jump on the software. http://bit.ly/M8axzX
