As we keep saying, for Google, it all seems to be about Search !

First post from my business page ...
Well at long last, Google have opened up the Google+ platform to business users.

This may just look like "me too" in the sense that the concept is similar to Facebook Pages and a lot of people will exercise themselves over the question of whether Google can ever catch Facebook, which has such a huge lead in terms of members.

Personally, I think it's the wrong question!

Google has been the ruler of the "search space" for aeons (in "internet time") and although other players are beginning to encroach on its turf, it's still the biggest player by far.

So aside from its regular search bots, crawling all the web pages as before, just consider all of the assets that Google can bring to bear to discern what people want and find useful on the web.

They have
- Google Places, which are being ever closely coupled to ...
- Google Maps
- Google+ ... which is where you're reading this now !
- Google +1, if you will, Big G's version of the Facebook "Like"
- YouTube
- Android

For some of these, you have to have a Google account too, which might just be your Gmail account.

Get the idea ? Having a handy-dandy social network to play with all these elements makes sense in terms of an integrated strategy for helping people to find what they want. And of course, when they are busy doing that, Google bring will show you ads in the way that they have for so long ... and this makes them a lot of cash !

Result ? Everyone is happy :D ... well, that's the theory ! Time will tell ...

Oops - meant to post the fact that I have put together a page for +Italic Marketing ... take a peek.

Well now that businesses can have their own presence on Google+, I have put something together for Italic Marketing ... come over and see why I don't think it will ever matter whether G+ can "catch Facebook".

Surprise surprise !
Google announced this week that Google+ shares would start showing up in Google search results. Is this a game changer?

Obviously this could give Google+ the edge over Facebook -- websites would be incentivized to integrate +1 buttons more than Like buttons if they provided a boost in search results.

What's not to clear to me is the exact effect a +1 or a Google+ share has on search results -- I thought it would just provide the same results and append a friend's avatar if they had shared that link ... but some testing suggests that Google is actually rearranging search pages based on what your friends share.

Does anyone have insights into how Google+ is changing search results? What have you seen? And is this a BIG DEAL or not?

I was just talking to +Tina Williams about Google+, then found this link. It talks about where it will be in a year's time. Will it be "The new number 2" or will it be another Google also-ran ?

Re my last prodigal post, here's a thought: I'm delighted to see that +Lisa Barone has just "circled" me (Is that how we say it ?). So let me say that if you're not reading her excellent tweet, posts, etc, then you should be ! You should ALSO vote for her in the Small Business Influencer Awards.

Go get 'em Lisa !

I have to admit that after the initial flurry of excitement and exploration, I have been neglecting my G+ account :-( Sorry guys ... I'll be spending more time in here from now on !
