This place is a little confusing since it's located in the hotel. It's your typical old school diner where time stopped in 1975 - and I don't mean in that kitschy way where it's decorated with 70's memorabilia. It's really outdated, but I love it. Last time I came here I saw Tony, the bass player from No Doubt. Expect to bump into under the radar celebs here. As far as the food, it's your typical run of the mill diner food with fries, club sandwiches, milkshakes, and burgers. Great for a 2 am snack. I usually come out here for the chocolate brownie waffle a la mode - cause ice cream makes everything better.

I was very disappointed with this restaurant, after I selected it based on other reviews here. The only nice thing I can say about this place was that my server was courteous and attentive. The eggs Benedict was decidedly uninspiring: the hollandaise most likely came from a jar and the slab of ham was much too thick and too smokey, it overpowered everything else. The hash browns were inedible: a thick, cold, undercooked lump of potato. I'm glad I stuck to drip coffee, because the staff manning the espresso machine clearly didn't care how their creations turned out.

What's not to love about this place? Aside from the impossible parking situation but that's just LA. Every once in a while I find myself in LA with a few friends and it's always a late night and those last nights turn into spending a few hours here until dawn. Always. That's just how I roll. I've had a few of their crazy drink combos, the hot chai, and the breakfast. I love it all. The best thing to do is grab a booth. We made a mistake of spending a long night at a table and then we were all stiff the next day from sitting in chairs for a while. Service is awesome here. They understand it's a place to chill out for meaningful conversation. They ask ahead of time when the bill should be sent, should it be split, and if we'll be ordering soon or later and the drinks get refilled a lot but without any hassle or effort. The food isn't very memorable but the drinks are really cool. Go here for the atmosphere and a great place to hang out late night in LA.

I love this place. It's a second home and the one place I can reliably bring friends who are visiting or just want to get together for lunch or coffee. I've been coming here regularly since moving to the neighborhood in 1995, back when I was single. The staff has embraced my husband (our first date was here) and watched our children (12 and 7) grow since we first hauled them through the door in infant carriers. The place is never too busy for us not to be welcomed with huge smiles and open arms. I have a standing lunch date with a friend every week for the Thursdays-only fried chicken special. Unbelievable. I'm Southern, and it's one of the best fried chicken recipes I've ever tasted. All breakfast entrees are sterling. But the KILLER is their waffle brownie (exactly what it sounds like: brownie batter poured into a waffle iron) topped with vanilla ice cream, drizzled with warm chocolate syrup and whipped cream. Best dessert ever invented. A home run.

I ate a late dinner at this cafe on February 12, 2012, at approximately 11:30pm - a ham & cheese omelette, hash browns and sausage patties. I awoke the next morning with terrible diarrhea that lasted a staggering three months! After having had tests and evaluations from three different doctors, I am convinced that I contracted a parasite from this food. The infection finally left my system after I took some (unpaid) time off from my job and ate lots of active yoghurt and took a probiotic supplement. I have since been perfectly fine and 7 months have passed. If you enjoy lousy service and a dinner that will practically kill you, dine at the 101 Cafe.
