When this restaurant first opened some 15-20 years ago, it started out strong. They seemed to operate with a certain urgency to prove themselves, which made everything down to even the service pretty good. Alas, it didn't take it very long to decline, and what a decline too! After about a year or two, we stopped becoming regulars and have since been back about 3-4 times (in the last decade) just to see whether they've managed to pull themselves back up to the quality of their early days. Not remotely so--barely edible food, horrible service, cheating on item prices and tips and additional service charges not authorized by cardholder, and nasty bathrooms (once the bathroom overflooded into the dining area w/ customers around, complete with floating pieces of feces). That was indeed the very last time! so yes ... be very WARNED!

I loved the veggie platter. The spinach was great. My boyfriend like his kabob. The atmosphere was a little lacking and the bathroom smelled but the food was good.

I've been going to this restaurant several times a year for several years. It's a treat for us whenever we're on the Virginia side of the river around dinner time and at loose ends. The service is fine and the people are friendly. The decor is so-so. The place is clean, the prices are good, and the food is splendid. For kebabs this is one of the best places in the area.

I was starving when I arrived to the Afghan Restaurant only to find out that my appetizer had a long brown/black hair cooked into it. The server brought out a newly made one within 3 minutes and after inspection, I ate it. When the server brought out my entree, there was a long black hair in my rice. Once but 2 times???? I ate one skewer of beef and a little bread but I was getting so sick thinking about what happened that I almost regurgitated everything. To add, they took $2 off of my meal for the inconvenience. Talk about an insult. And guess what? There was ANOTHER hair in the box that they tried to give me to take home the leftovers. NEVER AGAIN! This place is GROSS!

1- If you care about HALAL, this place sells WINE. 2- My credit card was charged 5 $ more than what I signed on the receipt. I called the manager : he asked me if I gave a tip? I told him yes, I gave cash. I told him he is not supposed to take any amount from my credit card under any name without my permission. He refunded the money immediately. (We were 2 persons)

I only went for the buffet and the food was OK. It seemed greasy but tasted pretty good for the most part. The chicken kabob on the buffet was obviously leftover as it was cool on the inside and warm on the outside like it was taken out of the refrigerator and was being warmed on the hot pan on the buffet. Two biggest complaints are: 1. That the restaurant was supposed to open at 11 AM and I got there at 11:45 and the guy came to the door and asked us to wait outside in the cold (it was late December!) for a couple of minutes. Over 10 later he had us come in. 2. There was no bread of any kind on the buffet. I've been to Afghanistan and they had bread with everything. I've been to a dozen or so Afghan restaurants and they always had bread. Lastly, the waiter that was taking care of us was eating food in the corner and had bread! What the heck?!

This place has such delicious and comforting/healthy food! I love the boneless chicken thighs...they are juicy with tons of flavor, the bread is chewy and fabulous. The vegetarian platter with stewed pumpkin, spinach, and eggplant is amazing. I also love the mantu/aushak (like ravioli) appetizers. The service is pretty blah and the wine could use some help, but def check this place out for the food! Its perfect for sharing/family style
