Well, it has happened. Our schools and youth serving organizations have invested millions trying to teach our children to respect their peers and avoid using degrading and hurtful language in conversation. Yet in a matter of months, Republican Donald Trump, who is vying for the White House, has systematically sucked the moral code of common decency clear through the drain and into the sewer... #donaldtrump   #trump   #elections2016

Over the years, many parents who are nearing a decision to divorce have asked me these kinds of questions. Bear in my that my input was sought from my perspective a youth advocate or within the realm of pastoral care as a Friends minister and not as a legal authority. Answering Your Questions About Divorce, as a resource on Rise This Day, is perhaps the largest single topic I have been asked about over the last thirty years...

For some of us, prayer and praying, is as close as our back pockets and knowing How Prayer Can Help is simply a given. For others, I realize that prayer, the concept of knowing and claiming it within, may be the farthest thing from their mind. That’s fine too. Obviously, my bias is that prayer is real, that it does matter and it can make a world of difference in our daily lives.

A Japanese artist was commissioned by an American to do a
painting. The completed work had, in a lower corner,
the branch of a cherry tree with a few blossoms and a bird
perched upon it. The entire upper half of the painting was white.
Unhappy, the American asked the artist to put something
else in the painting because it looked, well, so bare.
The Japanese refused the request. When pressed for an explanation,
the artist said that if he did fill up the painting, there would
be no space for the bird to fly.

It’s a funny thing. I have worked with children and teens for over three decades (I did the math on my fingers) and if there’s anything that reminds me of how young I am not, it’s each and every one of these youngsters. So the thought of aging vs aging well comes to mind now and then...even when young people say things to me like...

As anyone who knows and watches light, it does not wait. At eight in the morning the dew and fog was quickly lifting from the old east-facing pasture, and within minutes the full intensity of the sun would have claimed the land for another day. When I arrived I found not one, but several webs, each waving ever so slowly in the morning breeze with a riot of light and colors passing through each...

Far too many good, talented people get stuck in jobs that for one reason or another have become unfulfilling, caustic, unhealthy and even dangerous to heart, soul and body. The causative aspects are too many to list in one place, but I’m betting that you know what they are. With rare exceptions, however, there are ways to change this, too. This discussion and resource, “Is Your Job Sucking You Dry,” address this situation head-on and offers some realistic approaches to making a change for the better.
