Oh, I agree.
It's definitely in devs best interest to use the traditional 'point and touch' navigation as the primary form until gestures become more widely accepted by users. I would like to see more efforts to educate users on the method though, like using gestures for some functions or including a brief tutorial of new features during the first startup after an update. Twitter and Reeder both do a great job at this with their iPad apps. (Disclosure: Can't speak for any OS other than iOS because I don't have much experience with them.)
I like to think that gestures are the future, and I'm just in hurry to get there.
