Yesterday's update is delayed because I thought I'd lost my laptop power supply [my camera, otoh, has died: I'll have to get a new one :( ]. Also, it was an interesting day: a few days before, I'd heard from a local fisherman that there was one of the old boats, a marukobune, on the other shore of lake biwa, and with a bit of digging around I was able to find the museum that held it. An hour and a half from Hikone by train.
The people who run the Kiyotaki ryokan, btw, were incredibly helpful: they gave me a lift to the station so that I could make the once-an-hour train connection, and then waited for me while I rooted around buying a present for myself.
Anyway: the Marukobune no Yakata had, true to its name, a genuine marukobune, as well as a collection of models and etceteras.
