If you're thinking of holding a public sector unconference now is the time. There's small amounts of start-up cash available via +Steph Gray and +Dave Briggs

Hampshire’s Rights of Way are open (data)

Posted on 9 August, 2013 by markbraggins
You may have already noticed that there’s an interactive map of Hampshire’s Public Rights of Way on Hampshire County Council’s Countryside web pages. This currently shows:

All Rights of Way (for which Hampshire County Council is responsible)
Temporary closures
Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs)
Long Distance paths
Hampshire's Rights of Way

Hampshire County Council was also the first local authority in the country to also make the data available to download. This was possible as Ordnance Survey granted exemption from the restrictions normally placed on any data that has been derived from OS data.

Footpath sign at dawn near Twyford, Hampshire
The Rights of Way data – which is available in both KML and ESRI Shapefile formats under the OS Open Data Licence – can be used in mapping products like Google Earth and Open Street Map. There’s also a short video on HCC’s web site which explains how to download and use the KML mapping data.

For further information on Hampshire County Council’s open data projects, please contact infoprojects@hants.gov.uk

This should explain why many of us that run unconferences feel so passionately about them and the benefits that they achieve...

A Big Thank You

As BlueLightCamp is drawing closer, I would like to take this opportunity to thank those generous sponsors who have enabled us to hold the event this year. They are:

British APCO
MusterPoint
Ordnance Survey
Hootsuite
CityCamp Brighton
CrowdControlHQ
Delib
Simpl Challenges
LearningPool
Multizone
OCSI
Public-i

Details on each sponsor can be found at http://bluelightcamp.wordpress.com/2013-sponsors/

I would also like to thank those individuals that help behind the scenes that help organise the event:

Mark Braggins - who has been a rock throughout the organising period and has done much of the work
Angus Fox - for his brilliant knowledge in pulling together the Hackathon that I had little experience of
Kate Norman - for the ideas and publicity
John Popham - for the live streaming on the day and support leading up to event
Clare White - for agreeing to keep order as the facilitator during the unconference
Si Whitehouse - for facilitating the hackathon day

and last but not least Ian Readhead (British APCO) for his support throughout the BlueLightCamp project.

See you on the 27/28th April at Manchester Central - blc13.eventbrite.com
