These 20te TCA tension and compression load cells are part of our standard range of load cells, and have been manufactured for a customer that specialises in measurement technology. They have standard threads to enable the fitment of rod-end bearings and have been supplied with integral amplifiers to give 4-20mA output. Like much of our standard range, we can modify our designs to meet specific application requirements, such as different thread arrangements, special sizes and electrical connectors, as well as subsea and ATEX versions.

As well as load cells, LCM Systems also manufacture and supply a range of pressure transducers, like these 10,000psi rated versions that are on their way to one of our UK customers. These examples have a standard mV/V output, but they can be supplied with integral amplifiers to give a 4-20mA, 0-5V, 0-10V or +/-10V output. Rated to IP66 and with an accuracy of better than 0.1%, these pressure transducers offer a reliable and cost effective solution for applications that require accurate pressure measurements.

Manufactured for one of our regular customers and leaving the factory this week is a 120 klbf (5.4 tonne) load pin which has a very large diameter in comparison to its load capacity. This is because the load pin is a direct replacement for an existing load bearing pin, so dimensionally has to match it exactly, despite the dimensions being far from optimal. To enable the load pin to accurately measure the required load, the load pin was machined with extra deep grooves to provide adequate strain when subjected to that load.

Leaving the factory today are 10 x 900kN load pins for a European customer that specialises in the design of winch systems and deck equipment for the marine and offshore industries. These load pins will be incorporated into their mooring winches to provide mooring line tension monitoring. The load pins are manufactured from stainless steel and sealed to IP67 to ensure suitability in a marine/offshore environment, and have integral amplifiers to provide 4-20mA output. 3.1 material certificates were also provided.

Despatched earlier this week and on its way to one of our regular customers is a 100te TCA tension and compression load cell. This particular load cell is being used in a newly designed calibration rig for a marine application. The load cell is of an all welded construction, is environmentally sealed to IP67 and has M100 female threads both ends to fit the test rig. With an accuracy of better than 0.1% the load cell achieved the accuracy required by the customer.

Recently despatched were 12 x load pins with various dimensions (up to 605mm in length) and ratings up to 30 tonnes. They will be installed in a torque arm arrangement to measure the forces applied on belt conveyors. Because they will be used in a mining application the environmental conditions are particularly harsh, and the load pins will have to withstand a dust laden environment with high humidity (88% average) and heavy driving rain (5000mm per year). The machining finish specified was F5 (-0.036 to -0051 tolerance), requiring a ground finish. Each load pin was fitted with an integral amplifier to provide a 4-20mA output, was rated to IP67 and supplied with 3.1 material certification.

Following on from last week’s post about very small load cells, we are continuing the theme this week with a tiny load link we have just delivered to a customer in Hong Kong. Due to space restrictions, the load link dimensions were critical, and could not exceed a length of 130mm. The load link rating required was 5000kg, and in order to achieve this capacity (while maintaining a proof load of 150% and ultimate breaking load of 300%) the 17-4PH stainless steel used was heat treated to H900. Accuracy achieved was around 0.1% of rated load. Whether the requirement is for a miniature load link or for high capacity applications, LCM Systems is able to design and manufacture a product to suit.

In addition to the larger load cells we supply, we also manufacture much smaller load cells, like these DCE tension and compression load cells that will be despatched tomorrow to one of our UK customers. Rated at 1kN, they will be installed in a specially designed NDT test machine to validate the force applied during the test. The customer required a 4-20mA output for direct data transfer to a PLC, but due to the very small size of the load cells (just 20mm in diameter), an external amplifier was the only way to achieve the necessary output, and so SGA amplifiers were also supplied.

Recently despatched from our factory were two ATEX load shackles, each rated to 250 tonnes, to be used for mooring hawser tension monitoring on a CALM buoy system. Because of the environment they will be used in (offshore loading/offloading of oil tankers) the load shackles had to be Ex’d certified for use in a Zone 2 hazardous area. GN Rope H11 ‘D’ shackles were specified by the customer and ABS witnessing of proof loading and calibration was also required. Each load shackle was supplied with 60m of steel armoured PUR cable and a junction box to provide RS232 output.

Despatched earlier this week were 4 x 20te compression load cells and 4 x 50te compression load cells for a Centre of Gravity system. The customer wanted the option of being able to use the load cells wirelessly or with a cabled handheld display. To facilitate this request, each load cell was supplied with a T24-ACM-SA wireless module which also had an integrated binder connector for connection to a handheld display when required. Also supplied was a T24-BSi wireless base station for transmission of data to a PC, which incorporated custom design Centre of Gravity software to show individual load cell loads and the dynamic centre of gravity.
