I'm an Information Technology Systems Administrator

I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia very close to the beach and was a volunteer Life Saver throughout my teen years.

I have lived and worked in Adelaide; Melbourne; Canberra; & Sydney as well as Rochester, Minnesota for a short assignment and Boulder, Colorado for 3 1/2 years where I met Tanya, my 2nd wife.

After moving back to my home city, I worked in Murray Bridge for a few years but we are currently back in the city.

I'm currently following a Ketogenic Diet.

My on-line resume can be found here...

I have a son in his early twenties from my 1st marriage who lives with his girlfriend interstate.

My Mother died of cancer in September 2013 and my Father lives an hour away in Goolwa, South Australia.  My older Brother lives in Adelaide, South Australia and my Sister (also older) lives in Barlings Beach, New South Wales, Australia.

My in-laws are in Colorado, USA.  Our most recent trip back was for Halloween in 2013.

Tanya went in to hospital for a minor procedure and after an anaphylactic reaction to the general anaesthetic and subsequent stroke to her brain stem is now subject to Locked-in Syndrome.  We are all collectively still coming to grips with what this means.

"dominoconsultant" is a name I first started using back in 1996 when my work concentrated on Lotus Notes.  Domino is the server component that I still work with day-to-day.

Keto Diet Day 3 & my favourite kitchen appliance

Was a Monday (yesterday in Australia) - Was diligent at work (diet wise) and was tracking well to be under 20g for the day.

After picking up my wife and getting home I offered to cook dinner.
We have this cool little thing that looks a bit like a rice-cooker but it's called a multi-cooker. It has a removable non-stick pot with a plastic steaming tray (link to details at the end of the post).

I had bought some skinless Atlantic Salmon on the weekend and portioned it in vacuum sealed bags before freezing. We were both pretty hungry so I opened up three bags and put the frozen portions on the steamer tray (after adding 2 cups of water), seasoning on top, then added a bunch of brocolini. Close the lid and set to cook fish by steam for 20 minutes (that's the default setting btw).

That all took under two minutes to do. Then I can go about my evening routine until the multi-cooker beeps (loudly). Pop the top and call my wife and heat some butter (for her) and rice-bran margarine (me) so we can dip the brocolini tops into it.

Served with a drizzle of rice-bran oil (I use this for almost everything cause I watch my cholesterol closely) salt and pepper this is most definitely my favourite meal. Quick too.

BUT: I was using MyFitnessPal on my phone to track yesterday's carbs (as suggested on a different reddit post) and after tracking back why I was over I found out that brocolini has more carbs in it than I thought. Yesterday I came in at 24g. So close but I'm still going through "induction" so I'm still getting used to all the changes.

Gusto Ristorante

A review of our first visit to Gusto Ristorante (121-125 The Parade Norwood SA 5067).

We eat a ketogenic diet which is very low in carbohydrates (see

We had four items off of the Antipasti menu:
1. ANTIPASTO DI GUSTO - Chefs Selection of Cold meats, Seafood & House made Specialties;
2. OSTRICHE ALLA DIAVOLA - Local Oysters baked with Bacon, Brandy, Worcestershire & Tobasco;
3. COZZE E VONGOLE AFFOGATE - Steames Local Cockles & Black Lip Mussels With Garlic, White Wine, Parsley & Chilli; and
4. QUAGLIA ALLA GRIGLIA - Marinated Char Grilled Barossa Quail Served with a Tuscan Salad of Fresh Tomato, Cucumber, Spanish Onion, Basil, Red Wine Vinegar & Olive oil with Salmoriglio Dressing.

The QUAGLIA ALLA GRIGLIA was charred beyond being edible. My wife was able to get a bite of something that tasted OK but this should not have left the kitchen.

OSTRICHE ALLA DIAVOLA was OK. Nothing special at all. The same as any Oysters Kilpatrick I've had hundreds of times.

The ANTIPASTO DI GUSTO was disappointing. Some of the items we couldn't/wouldn't eat because they were battered. Of the rest of it there was nothing to stand out. It was pretty prosaic.

The star of the meal was COZZE E VONGOLE AFFOGATE which seemed to have quite a bit of butter much to my delight. We ate the cockles and mussels with relish but the broth was an absolute delight; if there was no other food coming I would have drained it completely. To be quite honost this could have done me for a main quite happily.

I would go back for this dish only. I could see me having this before a movie with glass of wine.

The service was just OK.

The pub food is good but there is also a very nice restaurant that is separate from the front bar.
