A map projection is a mathematical transformation of a curved (typically ellipsoidal) surface to a flat plane. UTM is a collection of transforms to multiple flat planes and is therefore a system. I also deal with projections quite regularly as I've spent the last ten years writing GIS software.
Took a walk up to the ruins of Vlacherna monastery earlier today. (A 3 mile walk is very exhausting when it's almost 40 degrees C.) when finally up there I was rewarded with a refreashing breeze under the giant olive trees and the view of Valtos bay and Parga was amazing... Greetings from Parga, Greece!
