Today in Tudor History: 19 Jul 1545 - Henry VIII's flagship "The Mary Rose" sank off Portsmouth. Also today, in 1553 - Mary Tudor was proclaimed Queen, ending Jane Grey's brief reign.

Today in Tudor History: 16 Jul 1517 - Frances, daughter of Mary Tudor and Charles Brandon, (and mother of Lady Jane Grey), was born at Hatfield. Also today, in 1546 - Anne Askew was burned at the stake for heresy. And finally, today in 1557 - Anne of Cleves, last surviving wife of Henry VIII, died at Chelsea Manor.
