I come across many people who want to change the world yet they haven’t figured out how to change themselves for the better; writers who think that you write for a formulaic reader when in reality if you cannot write from the core about what makes you come alive daily your writing will always be voiceless and cosmetic. In a moment when I find it exhausting to look at the outside world for inspiration, I’m looking inward and writing up a storm as I listen to Oprah.

Where is the fucking outrage of the Jewish-American community? “What a glorious day,” Mr. Netanyahu exulted. “Remember this moment! This is history! President Trump, by recognizing history, you have made history.” And this is another reason why I chose to be spiritual but not religious, have a social conscience but remain politically withdrawn. No more Judaism or Christianity for me. I disown you both! The business of politics is a dirty one. And even the Jewish people with a history of oppression and genocide are willing to turn their heads the other way and support Palestinian bloodshed just to “make history.” You are nothing but a puppet of the US, president (in lowercase) Netanyahu. You are the ass of Trump.

Winter is always winter. I don't think there's any season but winter that lends itself to introspection. My creative peak is always winter bound.

I came across this gorgeous interpretation of the classic song while preparing for the second part of my workshop, "Constructing a 3-D Memoir," which I'll be teaching on February 24, 2018. I love this rendition of "Memories." Like memories, the new arrangement seems to re-birth the "old memories" giving them a touch of freshness as if time had indeed "rewritten every line." What a treat! Very different and yes, I agree with some of you, it is almost unrecognizable from the Marvin Hamlisch original melody at times, but as remarkable and memorable because of these two gifted and unique voices—memoirists in their own right—rejoicing in the beauty of this new arrangement.

Perhaps the secret purpose of the bond we create with our dogs is that we can awaken and acknowledge our humanness after all. Not a single moment goes by that I don't think of Sookie, the most beautiful, fastest, curious and loving creature that made me a better person. IN MEMORIAM SOOKIE. YOU ARE MISSED. #inmemoriamsookie
