The Longitude Prize offers a £10 million prize fund for an innovation that will solve one of the major problems of our time.

In today's Daily Telegraph, Prof Nidal Hilal from Swansea Uni's College of Engineering makes the case for new sources of fresh, clean water - an urgent and growing challenge for humanity.  Vote Water!

The University will be partnering with global technology giant Hewlett Packard (HP), in a major 3-year project to explore the development of sustainable next-generation cities and communities.

Using HP technology such as smart meters, smart grid technologies, ultra-low-power wireless sensors, cyber security and resource management software - and experience gained from HP's own research at HP Labs in Palo Alto, California - an experimental 'testbed' will be established at the University.

Research will determine the best set-up to support the radical changes needed to significantly reduce fossil fuel consumption.

The project will also lead to a permanent research environments being established at the University for the development of next-generation digital economy products and services.

HUGE news this week as Swansea Uni was awarded 'UK University of the Year' at the What Uni Student Choice Awards!!!

The Uni was also awarded 2nd in the UK for both Students Union and Courses and Lecturers, and 3rd for Clubs and Societies. Awards are based on ratings from students themselves - THANK YOU so much to everyone who voted!

Massive congratulations to the Senior Men’s First VIII for their thrilling win over Cardiff!!!

A huge well done to the ladies' and novice rowing teams for their closely fought races, and to the cricket team for a top effort in soggy conditions - doing Swansea proud, all of you!
