Back in ‘79 after an idyllic six month stay at the Banff School of Fine Arts I worked in Banff as a waitress at a dive called Samo’s Broiler. You know the deal. This was a temporary stop-over. I would make enough extra cash and tour the west coast before returning home to Toronto. Anyway, I swear Joey Ramone sat in my section of the restaurant. He asked me, “Hey, would you mind checking my car and make sure no one leans on it?” True. He came back at least twice, maybe three times and sat slouched in my section. The same scenario would unfold. “Hey. Check out my car and make sure no one's leaning on it.” Sure thing. Being a collector of characters I made note of this quiet guy. Back then, I had no clue who the Ramones were (the awful truth) I was immersed in the classical music orbit/world.
