When I began working as a geologist at the Wyoming Geological Survey on the UW campus, jade, a couple of diamonds, and a few agates and jasper had been found in Wyoming. I thought there might be more, so I began searching - but I could never have predicted so many gems would be found in Wyoming. In found literally hundreds of new and unreported occurrences including some world-class gemstone deposits.
So, I wrote a 369-page book about the gems, minerals and related rocks in Wyoming - many which I discovered and provided legal description and GPS coordinates to many. AND, there are many, many more to be found. After talking to a well-known rock hound publisher, I decided to publish the book myself because the contract was too restrictive and very limiting - I wanted to be sure to get all of the information out to the public.
