I've read all your chicken posts - what have you come up with for a coop as well as a co-parenting agreement? Would you be able to share that with me? I have some friends who want to do something similar. They are moving to a condo, but are looking to have chickens and a garden (and I have the space to give them an entire garden plot as well as keep chickens). Looking for ideas on what to put into the agreement.

Sandra, sorry I haven't responded sooner. In my latest blog post I have a few pictures of a coupe design that I learned about at Cluck Chicken Store in Paoli.  We have not put together a specific co-parenting agreement, but we're definitely going to be talking about who does what, when, how we will split expenses, etc. The kinds of things were imagining we will agree on are weekly chicken care (as in one family takes care of the chickens, feeds, waters and takes eggs, for a week, and then trade off). There will of course be flexibility for vacations etc. But we wanted to make sure that there isn't confusion about who is taking care of chickens and we feel that a weekly rotation would suit us. But we still have to talk with Matt and Marissa about it.

Great article Josh and a great idea. We've had three fires this winter and invite friends and the few neighbors we have over to share in the warmth and we ask them to bring someone new each time. We've met quite a few people from the area who are then included on our next invite list for subsequent fires.

Great post Josh! I've heard of the store but I obviously haven't been down there. I think a field trip is in order on Saturday. How many chickens will your coop hold? How many styles of coops did she have? I'd like to see this place before I make my decision. I checked out her website but she doesn't have the coops on there. One coop I've been looking at does not have a run. While we have the space for free range, I'm concerned about providing lunch for coyotes, hawks and owls! I think I have a way to confine and protect them while still giving room to roam.
