“I think idea is really a concept that we should deconstruct. In my opinion, ideas are for inventors, not for entrepreneurs.”When studying entrepreneurship at Bradley University, each course I took on entrepreneurship centered around an idea we came up with either individually or as a team, and then we pursued how to create it for the rest of the semester. How we came up with that idea ranged from tackling a problem that annoyed us to being able ...

Episode two of Trepidemic will be available on May 18. Listen to episode one of Trepidemic on SoundCloud. In entrepreneurship education, experiential learning is key. No student is going to get an authentic experience by listening to lectures or reading out of a book. In trying to give that real experience, educators often encourage students to come up with business ideas to pursue throughout the semester. Coming from a college entrepreneurship pr...

Such an article is like opening a can of worms! :-) Such articles never analyze the situation to the bottom.

For instance, perhaps big corporations don't give much of their profit to charities - but perhaps their share holders do? That is where their profits end up!

And who even says that all the NGOs out there should exist? Maybe they are really, really bad at solving the problem they are adressing? How do we know when money is "free" ?

And this "The 10% of donated profits would make an impact far beyond what that money would do for the corporations." is just unsubstantiated claim! How does the author know that corporations don't need that last 10% of their profits? The author seems totally unaware of how wasteful many NGOs are with their resources. Some charities donate less than 5% of what they collect! The rest goes up in smoke (called "administration").

I want to make the world a better place too - but articles like these don't help.

For those "teaching" entrepreneurship, just a reminder that our students need to know how hard it is. They can't learn this through reading, through testing, through case studies and simulations. They can only learn this by feeling it, by doing it. Give them a real experience. We owe them that.

Love the practice of intellectual honesty!
Andrew Chen just wrote the a great little story about his first encounter with Eric, and why he's backed Eric's latest book The Leaders' Guide. It paints a bit of the picture of the early days, so inspired me to share how I've seen Eric grow from an unknown to an icon -- and what I think drove ...

Networking remains one of the most powerful activities to enhance your business, career, dating prospects or any other social want or need. The impact that one strong connection can have on our lives has fueled our need for networking events and opportunities. It’s even become the de facto answer to many of the questions or problems we face. Not getting enough sales for your business? “You have to get out there and network!”Need a job? “You have t...

I engaged Dennis and Mary to film a video series, and they couldn't have made the process easier and more fun. They helped me uncover a more impactful story to tell through the video series, and they created phenomenally engaging videos in just a few days. I'll use them for any I need done, period.
