Basic Information
Mahkam is one of the best language teachers I’ve ever had. She taught me in Trinity for over a year now. What I really found admirable was the way in which she tailors each lesson to each student. For example, the student before my class, each week, was visiting Iran for a holiday and Mahkam had designed a whole different programme for her: useful phrases, dialogue work, etc. I wanted to explore the more cultural and literary aspects of Farsi, and so without batting an eyelid she designed a whole different teaching programme for me, the highlight of which was managing to translate my first poem by Hafiz ;) I was really surprised with the progress I made and after the first few weeks I found myself picking out words and finally be able to sing along to Gogoosh and actually understand the words ;) If you’re thinking of learning Farsi – go for it. Not only will you get to read some of the most insightful poetry every written, but it’ll enhance your appreciation of and exposure to some of the world’s most beautiful art and architecture. Most importantly, it ups your chances of getting to meet, discuss and party with fantastic and super welcoming people. And, as if you need any more reasons… learning Farsi is pretty crucial to gaining a more rounded insight into world affairs and let’s not forget, a very good reception when you’re able to order your Zaytoons, in Farsi, on Camden st, on a Friday night in Dublin ;) So, I’ve given you the reasons why and the best teacher to go for … what are you waiting for?
