Overrated !! Food was mediocre. We found it flavorless. It was okay I guess. Service was horrible. I will give 3 stars to food and 1 star to service. They should hire more people. I love Indian food. So far this is definitely not the best Indian food around. I was really craving indian food and this was a big disappointment :/

Our collegiate dance team, DRP, had contacted Royal India to ask if they wanted to become one of our partners or sponsors. Not only did they agree, they treated us to a dinner! The managers were eager to support some local culture and were amazingly encouraging to us. As for the restaurant itself - it’s beautiful! As soon as we walked in, we saw chandeliers, a fountain, and paintings of kings and queens all around. We were treated to samosas, sizzling chicken, rice, fresh hot naan, chole, saag paneer, trays and trays of mango lassis, and rasgulla. It was all completely delicious, and the staff serving us was super friendly! We all had a great experience, and we highly recommend Royal India as one of the best restaurants in San Diego!

This restaurant continues to be the best in San Diego its combination of food and service. The great selection of dishes provide both veggie and non-veggie items than everybody in our party loved each time we have been there. The portions were very generous and the service was very attentive. Prices are very reasonable making it without a doubt the best value of any local restaurant. Its location in the Gaslamp Quarter makes it very convenient for all in San Diego.

One of the best if not THE BEST Indian restaurants. Not only is their food #1, their management is incredible. I'm part of an organization at my university and we have had Royal India cater for us and they are fantastic. Their prices are reasonable and the owner is always willing to give us a helping hand. Their food is fresh and so flavorful. I've sat down and had lunch a couple times there nd everything is so well kept and their restaurant is just beautiful! I always leave more than satisfied after I visit or do business with them.

If you want ambiance with the rich flavor of Indian dishes, Royal India is the place. Located downtown with many tables inside and out (they can cater for big groups too). To start, we shared an order of the vegetarian Pakoras (deep fried pastry). Served hot and with two dipping sauces. Not overly stuffed but were good in size. The vegetables and the fried pastry were seasoned well, soft in the inside, a bit crunchy on the outside, and when paired with the sweet and tangy taste of the two sauces were just an excellent starter. We then ordered their curry specialties - chicken tikka masala and the tandoori butter chicken. Both entrees came with rice and we ordered garlic naan on the side as well. First off their portions are huge. The chicken of both dishes were tender, and the curry was thick and had an abundance of flavor. Seasoned well and just made one order or naan for dipping not enough. I suggest ordering two especially when sharing. Even if we couldn't finish our meals (too much food) we still ordered a mango lassi. They are my favorite. Creamy and the mango flavor comes through. One per person is highly recommended. Also order a mango martini. Strong and if you love mangos (like me) the taste is there! This visit was our second attempt at dining here as the first night while their site states they close at 10 pm they closed at 8:30 pm that night as they were slow. On a Friday? What? Unbelievable because we enjoyed it and good thing we returned.

The Sunday buffet was delightful. After being on the road for five days, it was good to have a "home cooked" meal.
