.How the ongoing war between cynicism and how the Enlightenment revolved around the notion of the Zero Sum Game -- the idea that If we get something good, we must have given up something of equal value. Or that, in order to win, we must see someone else lose. This was the basic assumption or most civilizations past, and remains a powerful (if noxious) influence today. But the Positive Sum Game underlies all of the great forces moving us forward. I try to explain this in an interview-excerpt by UC Riverside.
