23 March - Salute to Legends
Recently I had a chance to visit Amritsar, located at the North-West corner of India. 94 Years ago on 13th April, the day of traditional festival - Baisakhi, 15000 to 20000 people were gathered at Jallianwala Bagh and started protesting peacefully. Gen. Dyer with his 50 rifle-men took their positions by the narrow lane at the entrance of Jallianwala Bagh. Gen. Dyer asked his troops to open fire towards people without any intimation. Eventually they killed more than 1500 people including many women. Many of them jumped in the well. While seeing Jallianwala Bagh, I realized that it is surrounded by 10 feet walls almost everywhere, preventing people getting out of venue. Still we could feel the petriotic waves at the place. I could not resist myself to pick the sacred soil with me. Salute to the martyrs. The incident influenced the life of Shaheed Bhagat Singh who turned to be one of the greatest freedom fighters in the history of India. Salute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his 82nd death anniversary - 23 March. Vande Mataram !!!
