Months ago, singer-songwriter Amanda Palmer publicly empathized with Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and was pilloried for doing so. This week, Antoinette Tuff essentially did the same thing and saved many young lives by so doing. Maybe it's time to rethink our approach.
Antoinette Tuff disarmed an intended killer with kindness, and she is a hero. Amanda Palmer suggested a similar approach, and she was pilloried.

Ugh, the life of a desk jockey. All that sitting, it catches up with you. This is how I'm fixing it. (Also, my first "subway art.")

The latest post in the "Twitter for Writers" series, this one discusses what to tweet—and maybe more importantly, what not to tweet. (Hint: A lot of writers get this wrong.)

Author Owen King (who wrote Double Feature, my favorite book of the decade so far) was musing on Twitter a few weeks ago about the definition of a geek. Here's how I define it (and he read and liked this; no possible way to pretend I'm not geeked about that).

How I started writing my first novel. Why it is terrifying. Plus a wee tiny excerpt!

Author Kelly Braffet wrote a spot-on essay about the dream of writing and the role of a dream-killing teacher last week. This is my reaction to it.

A no-spoiler review of another great one from Gaiman.

My sister was teaching in Moore when the tornado came through. For more than four hours afterward, my family didn't know where she was or if she was okay. This is that story.

The new trailer for the Man of Steel movie, out in June, was just released, a reminder of the awesome that is Superman.

I know, I know, Godwin's law. But ... it's a legitimate question.

Beware; for I am ginger and therefore cheeky.
Introduction
For money, I test software. For love (and eventually money), I am writing my first book. For love alone, I blog at The Cheeky Ginger (http://thecheekyginger.com).
Bragging rights
In all my years of driving, I've only ever killed one thing: a bird. And based on the way it flew into the windshield, I think it might have been suicide by car.

I can't say enough good things about Emery Chiropractic. From a business perspective, they are reasonable, accommodating, efficient, and respectful of their patients' time. From a medical perspective, their three chiropractors, massage therapist, and amazing support staff do a great job; it is not exaggerating to say that through their direct treatments, education, and encouragement/gentle nagging, they have made my life immeasurably better. And from a people perspective, it just doesn't get any better. They are the best.
