Up until now I've largely looked at Anthony as an advocate for me on internals because has been very approachable and he's had the skills and voice to put forth some great ideas that I've largely agreed with.

Based on that and a lot of "improve the tools you use!" evangelism I've heard in the past, I've been recently following the Internal ML. At first I had plans to join in and a couple times drafted up some emails. They where largely full of frustrated yelling so they where deleted. Avoiding posting those posts and generally minding my mental health I've sort of built a efficient process for reading Internals threads. My process goes something like this.

First I wait until one of a vocal minority I've learned to identify show up on the thread. I then judge how they reacted. Next I read the RFC largely for fun because it doesn't matter anymore. Depending on the vocal minorities opinion I then either.
1) Shut up and look forward to seeing a useful feature.
2) Shut up and be sad the useful feature isn't going in.
3) Occasionally, shrug because I didn't care.

I think this learned behavior is reflective of the problems Anthony's outlined. I don't know of how I'd suggest addressing the problem or if anyone even cares since the "good ole boys" club has been preserved.  I do think it is unfortunate for at the least the quality of the language though.

This guy has some amusing optimism out the future of Microsoft. There are some cool open source initiatives in MS but I think the deeply rooted culture that is toxic to OSS. He makes some good points on why it could happen though and how the stage is sort of set so maybe we can hold a little bit of hope?
