Another fantastic bar by Future Bars, Local Edition has a great cocktail menu and fun atmosphere. I went on a Wednesday night and was delighted to see that there was a live jazz band playing with people dancing as well. I think this is a great alternative bar to go to if you don't feel like making the effort to get reservations and Bourbon and Branch.

A throwback to the nostalgic prohibition era is what distinguishes this place from others. With that said, Local Edition has experienced several setbacks partly due to its success and popularity but also from the logistical nightmare it has imposed upon itself. The size / crowd to bar / bartender ratio is too large. The intimate setting and details of the interior are overshadowed with the number of people in attendance and and faintly resembles some trendy crowded club (shoulder to shoulder, lots of screaming to place orders and spilled drinks all over the place). Additionally the drinks take a long time to prepare. This is quite unfortunate because it is really quite the establishment and the initial intent and vibe has been lost. I still frequent this place but I try to get there early before the crowds arrive, otherwise it is not worth it. Similarly, this is an excellent venue for a crowd controlled private event.

Speakeasy vibes here at Local Edition (brought to you by same people who did Bourbon & branch and Rickhouse downtown). Dim lighting, dapper bartenders, vintage newspapers on display and live music occasionally. They make excellent cocktails here -- my favorite is the Yellow Kid because I can't resist gin and ginger beer. The dill syrup is a nice fragrant touch. This place is good for after-work drinks with friends but you might want to call and make a reservation if you want to sit down (there are plenty of tables but usually they make you put your name down). Otherwise, if you just walk in, there's a decent amount of standing room around the bar and near the stage. It can get a bit crowded on Friday and Saturday so would recommend stopping by on a weekday.

Local Edition is a fun speakeasy-esque bar on Market with an expansive interior and terrific drinks. There is often a line forming outside of Local Edition waiting to get in, but once you descend the stairs, you are transported back to another world. The decor and ambiance fits with the theme, as do the servers and bartenders. Drinks are very well made and although it takes some time to finally get one, the wait is worth it. Certainly not a cheap place for drinks, it is a great place to go unwind after a long work week.

Fantastic speakeasy cocktail bar close to San Francisco centre. Their drinks are a weee bit pricey ($10 for specialty cocktails) but they're made with attention to detail. The space is gorgeous and the staff was friendly and courteous even as a walk-in without a table reservation. I liked my "Yellow Kid" and want to try the Pho broth Bloody Mary next time.

I'm a sucker for high quality cocktails, and Local Edition definitely brings it. Tell them what you're feeling and they'll come up with something that will satisfy, classic or otherwise. Conveniently located on Market Street, near Montgomery BART, in an area with a dearth of good watering holes, they occupy a massive downstairs space. They also accept reservations for tables (or go early and you'll be seated relatively easily).
