My social enterprise, The Local Offer, based in Warwickshire, UK, is holding this half day workshop for parents and carers of children with SEND. If you are interested to find out more or wish to consider this for your region, please contact me on info@thelocaloffer.co.uk Please do share with friends and colleagues. With kind regards always.
A half day workshop for parents and carers of children and young people with special educational needs and/or disability. In this workshop, explore and evaluate common causes of stress and anxiety, identify negative emotions and 'stuck' or trapped emotions, understand the concept of self-compassion and why it's important for your life, experience simple strategies to de-stress and re-energise. All guests will go away with a little gift bag of calm.

I've a great interest in alternative or niche therapeutic approaches to addressing children and young people's needs. Music therapy is an emerging field and there's still a long way to go, I suspect, before it is taken into the mainstream, so good to raise awareness through this research from Bournemouth University.
Music Therapy Can Reduce Depression in Children and Teens

Researchers at Bournemouth University and Queen’s University Belfast have discovered that music therapy reduces depression in children and adolescents with behavioural and emotional problems.

The research is in Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry. (full open access)

Sunshine matters! With thanks to Neuroscience News for sharing this post.
Sunshine Matters a Lot to Mental Health: Temperature, Pollution and Rain Not So Much

Sunshine matters. A lot. The idea isn't exactly new, but according to a recent BYU study, when it comes to your mental and emotional health, the amount of time between sunrise and sunset is the weather variable that matters most.

The research is in Journal of Affective Disorders. (full access paywall)

http://www.thelocaloffer.co.uk/the-local-offer-vision A vision for the local offer, an aspect of the SEND reforms that is truly transformative, in spirit and I hope also, in practice within England's local authorities.
