There is plenty of evidence that manufacturing is starting to come back to America, but the return is a small trickle as compared with what has been off-shored in the past 15 years.  It is important to note that what is coming back is advanced manufacturing, not the $.23/per hour t-shirt production. Reshoring in America is an evolution not a revolution. Manufacturing jobs today are likely to require at least basic computer skills, machine tool programming, simple robotics instructions and running 3D printers.  This is not your grandfather's manufacturing.
The decision to reshore has also become more analytical and based on the total cost of ownership. It is not a trend, but more of an economic decision to determine what to produce in each market.
This is a more sophisticated approach to global manufacturing strategy.
We assist manufacturers bringing operations back to the US through our research and coaching, TCO modeling and through making real, sustainable efficiency and cost improvements.
