I've owned a lot of laptops in my life so I've experienced my share of laptop disasters and I know how they go: weeks spent in a back-and-forth with warranty services, sending boxes, exchanging phone calls, getting quotes, checking in. My last Best Buy warranty-covered problem took more than three weeks to get resolved. So when I dropped my computer last night, I was bummed. When I found out that I had somehow neglected to buy the $70 drop insurance--which I always do!--I was seriously tempted to get a new computer rather than deal with the hassles involved in fixing the one I'd broken. But I had files I needed, software I didn't want to reinstall... Instead I called Green Door Geeks. WOW! Less than 2 hours from my first call, my broken computer screen is replaced and I'm sitting at home typing this review. Talk about service. On my first phone call, Jessie was warm and friendly. I was shocked when she told me to bring it in and they'd take a look for free. Every non-warranty repair I've ever had charged a fee for testing, usually $50 or more. I got to the shop and Luis greeted me immediately. No waiting, he plugged it in and tried to check if the problem was just the screen. Unfortunately, the files didn't show so he couldn't tell whether I might have a hard drive problem, too, or any other hidden damage. I hate this moment in computer & car repair--hate it, hate it, hate it--when you're faced with choosing to spend a couple hundred bucks, not knowing whether you're going to wind up spending even more before you're done. But Luis said no, he'd do the repair and if there was more damage and it would wind up costing too much, he wouldn't charge me. I couldn't believe it--he was willing to spend the time to do the partial fix without making me pay for it? But yep. Less than an hour later, I got the call. New screen in place, computer working perfectly, come pick it up. I have never been so glad not to be under warranty in my life. Sure, it cost $130 more than if I'd bought the drop insurance like I usually do, but I have my computer back and working right away, not three weeks from now. And given that I'm never buying drop insurance again, in the long run, I bet I'll save money. Super nice people at Green Door Geeks--and super-satisfied customer writing this review.
