Just released #DDSL version 0.3 with the new persistent serviceUp-operation. DDSL is now using #scala 2.9.2 and the newest #zookeeper client. Check out the examples using both Scala and Java. A command line interface is also included. http://bit.ly/euiXF6

Have been working a lot lately relating to the cloud (#EC2 and +Joyent  ). Looking forward to investigating how #ddsl can help us create an easy and scalable system without a configuration-nightmare.

Just finished first version of "ddsl cmdline tool". The plan is to use it from our +RubyonRails frontend apps to hook it up with the dynamic java backend.

Sencha demonstrates HTML 5 can be faster than native iOS or Android apps (Facebook example)

You've heard that Facebook switched from HTML 5 to "native" apps on iOS and Android recently to "speed them up." That pissed off the developers from Sencha http://www.sencha.com/

So they built a Facebook app completely in HTML 5 that's even faster than the native Android and iOS apps that Facebook released last week.

Sencha builds HTML 5 programming tools and here we discuss the market for app developers and the choices they have to make. Later today I'll be at Facebook and will ask them more about why they can't match the speed Sencha displays here.

This blew away many of my assumptions of native vs. HTML 5 and proved that I was wrong when I said that the reason Facebook's app was faster was because it was native.

Did it change your assumptions?

Attached here is the video I shot at my house on Friday.

Ever wondered if someone is talking about you on the internet? You can do a manual Google search every now and then to see if anything appears... or you can use Google Alerts.

For some reason hardly anyone I know uses Google Alerts, and for no good reason. It is free, it effective, and very useful!

All you have to do is go to http://www.google.com/alerts, set up a search phrase, and Google will alert you if anything new appears on the internet with that phrase.

There are endless possibilties, but you can start with an alert when your name appears on the internet, or you can be alerted when someone talks about your favorite obscure subject or project.

Here is a nice how-to on Google Alerts: http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Google-Alerts

Here is a Life Hacker aticle about how to use Google Alerts as an identity theft whatchdog: http://lifehacker.com/5879922/use-google-alerts-as-an-identity-theft-personal-watchdog

Have fun with those alerts! :-)
