Today we decked the halls with nearly 1,000 gifts! Our Treasuring Families project identified 49 families in Martin and St. Lucie counties based on financial need, and with the help of Founding Friends of Hospice (sponsored 10 families), Post Insurance Company (sponsored 1 large family), Becky Watson/Miracles Salon (sponsored 5 families) and the Treasure Coast Hospice staff, those families can now enjoy the holidays with gracious gifts from our community.

Thank you to all who participated and Happy Holidays to everyone!

Caregivers face numerous responsibilities during the end-of-life stage, but one of the situations they're least prepared for is what they should, or shouldn't, say to the dying person and family. This informative article outlines the should and should-not's on talking about death. Remember, we have counselors and staff ready to help you with any questions you may have about this difficult subject, especially with children through our Little Treasures program.   #hospicecare   #caregiving

“I think when you lose somebody through death, …after a while time kind of takes the sting away. But when you’re dealing with somebody with Alzheimer’s, you’re reminded of what you have lost all the time."

Learn more about the "long goodbye", anticipatory grief and Alzheimer’s Disease in this informative article. Don't forget that grief counseling is available to all at Treasure Coast Hospice.

In honor of Veterans Day tomorrow we would like to share one of the many heartwarming experiences we offer our veteran patients. As a tribute to their service, all veteran patients are saluted, pinned, and given a gift and certificate of appreciation by volunteer veterans and staff. In this photo, from left to right, volunteer veterans Gerry Grasser, Gasper Perry, Greg Gollhofer and Mike Myers are joined by volunteer Neil Friedman and volunteer manager AnnMarie St. James, as they pay tribute to a veteran patient in one of our hospice houses.

As a level 3 partner for We Honor Veterans (http://www.wehonorveterans.org/), Treasure Coast Hospice develops and strengthens relationships with VA medical centers and other veteran organizations, such as Honor Flight, while educating our staff and the public on veteran affairs and care. Happy Veterans Day to all and don’t forget to thank a vet!

November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and we'd like to share National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization's promotional ads to raise awareness for length-of-stay. This ad is particularly important as hospice care is not the "end". Our care can actually extend the lives of patients while providing a higher quality of life over aggressive treatments like chemotherapy found in hospitals.

Remember, the sooner you call Treasure Coast Hospice, the more we can help!

November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. Throughout the month, we're celebrating and raising awareness by asking our team members "In one word, describe the Heart of Hospice" Here's a compilation of their responses so far, summed up in our "Hospice Heart". What is the Heart of Hospice to you?
