In honor of Illinois’ bicentennial, the 1820 Colonel Benjamin Stephenson House, will hold an early American musical soiree and afternoon tea on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 1 pm. The event also celebrates our matriarch, Mrs. Lucy Stephenson, who was born on December 6, 1788. Guests will be entertained with an array of musical presentations on authentic instruments, including viola, violin and the house’s restored 1820 pianoforte. Escape to a time when music was performed live in homes among family and friends as the only form of entertainment available to them. The music of Beethoven, Mozart and other classical composers along with favorite early American tunes will be performed by period dressed musicians from Edwardsville District 7 and Swing City Music. Following the performance, an afternoon tea with cookies, cakes and hot tea will be served. Seating is limited for this event and reservations are required. Tickets are $10 each and must be purchased in advance. For reservations and ticket information call (618) 692-1818. Tickets may be purchased online at www.stephensonhouse.org. The 1820 Col. Benjamin Stephenson House is located at 409 S. Buchanan St., Edwardsville Illinois.
