First of all, I'm not into writing bad reviews, especially after only eating at a place one time. However, my girlfriend and I were extremely disappointed with Nicklow's and I needed to pass on my experience. FOOD -- bad. I got a mexican omelette that was just bad. There was almost zero meat in it and it was extremely bland. The toast was hard and barely buttered. My girlfriend ordered Chicken Fried Steak which arrived with very little meat and almost all breading. The breading was passable as was the gravy. Her toast was the same as mine. She also had hash browns on the side, which she LOVES. Unfortunately they were barely cooked and tasteless. The highlight of our meal was the pot of coffee I ordered. SERVICE -- worse than the food. Took a bit to get seated but that's ok, it happens. Upon seating, the waitress disappeared and came back a while later and asked if we were ready to order. We weren't, and upon leaving she almost didn't ask about drinks. After coming back and getting our order, our waitress never checked on us. Not once. There were several other parties there that she looked after, however. Upon finishing our food we sat around and waited for some sort of acknowledgement that we were alive. Amazingly we talked about walking out. We were truly disappointed in the food and the service was atrocious. The average customer was quite a few years older than we were, as was the wait staff, so perhaps our ages were taken into account and weren't treated with the same quality. It's too bad too, because I tip at 30-40% most of the time. Even when service is subpar I hover around 20%. Today, however, my girlfriend grabbed the bill because it was her idea and promptly gave our waitress $1.25, because she was thoroughly unhappy about how everything turned out, as was I. Normally I would give a place another chance, and perhaps we will but it will likely be grabbing a beer at the bar and ordering gyros, which is supposed to be a favorite there. At least that way I'll bypass the service. If you do visit Nicklow's, best of luck and I hope this was just one bad experience and is a rarity for them.
