How Beacons Are Shaping The Future Of Local Digital Marketing

Beacons are a new class of low-powered, low-cost transmitters that can notify nearby mobile devices of their presence.

The technology enables a smartphone or other device to perform actions when in close proximity to a Beacon allowing businesses to send content, offers and more through push notifications to their prospects phones.

Here we talk about the geofencing and contextual search opportunities through beacon marketing.

3 Short Boating Courses To Consider Ahead Of A Longer Passage

Going to sea is ultimately about self reliance. The further you plan to go the less of a chance of being bailed out should you really get into trouble.

Completing the main course syllabuses in the techniques of planning and implementing longer passages is essential to safely get from a-b. The more you learn, the more self reliant you will become.

+The Boating Hub discuss 3 short #boating courses you should consider before attempting longer passages – meteorology, engine maintenance and sea survival.

A Response To Ritson: The Argument For Social Media

There’s a video over on +MarketingWeekEd that says #socialmediamarketing is mostly a load of old hooey. Their controversial columnist Mark Ritson makes some good points but also misses the mark, too.

His view is very data-centric and broad, and in my opinion such a generalised view gives the medium a disservice.

I also think Ritson’s argument is an angry one against the wider advertising industry, and ignores the social successes of many smaller businesses.

Here's my response, and why it's wrong to generalise a successful medium.

Are you ready for April 21st, your website must be mobile friendly by then.

I wrote about it recently, check it out at http://www.webpresence.tv/uk-blog/mobile-friendly-big-rankings-boost-tips/

Google's mobile friendly algorithm as a search ranking factor: what you need to know

♨  April 21 is the deadline Google set for the webmasters to get mobile ready. http://tgcafe.it/1LQ0Zbe

"Take out your phone, look up your web site. See if there is a gray mobile friendly label in your description snippet. If it is in the search results, if you see it, that means that Google understands that your site is mobile friendly and if you don’t see it then we don’t see that your site is mobile friendly or your is not mobile friendly." http://tgcafe.it/1HFy3l1

♨  Google's mobile friendly ranking algorithm will "take a few days to roll out, like maybe a week or so." http://tgcafe.it/1NgvLL2

♨  The mobile friendly ranking algorithm will affect mobile searches in ALL languages worldwide and 'will have a significant impact in our search results.' according to Google http://tgcafe.it/1ARdm3P

♨  It'll have a bigger impact on the search results than Penguin and Panda did. http://tgcafe.it/1FGOBvD

♨  It is a yes or no algorithm (either you are mobile friendly or not) - no 'degrees' of mobile friendliness. http://tgcafe.it/1Cqpwmc

♨  The mobile friendly ranking algorithm will not have any impact on the desktop search whatsoever. http://tgcafe.it/1NgvLL2

♨  Responsive design works well, but it's not the only way to be mobile friendly. http://tgcafe.it/1MvxRGC

♨  Your site must unblock CSS & javascript to pass mobile friendly test. http://tgcafe.it/1MvxRGC

♨   All pages must be mobile friendly for your site to be considered mobile friendly. http://tgcafe.it/1MvxRGC

Clarification of the last point from +Mark Traphagen: The 'mobile friendly' designation is site wide. The ranking boost or demotion will be page by page.

Does your site pass the Mobile-Friendly Test?

Special thanks to +Barry Schwartz +Jennifer Slegg for keeping up with the changes!

♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨♨

I am planning on keeping this post continuously updated as mobile friendly algorithm news/notes/clarifications come out.

If you have anything to add, let me know in comments.

I am also planning on offering Traffic Generation Café Wordpress theme, which is completely mobile responsive (among other great features), for sale in the near future.

So if your site runs on Wordpress and you need an easy solution to your site mobile unfriendliness, this might be it.

Stay tuned!

The Differences Between Monohulls And Multihulls, And The Courses Available

Looking at single hulled boats (#monohulls) and two or three hulled boats (#multihulls) there is the obvious difference of the number of hulls (nah, really?!) but there are also a number of differences in the way they #sail.

The differences are great enough that it is advisable to do either a Multihull Conversion Course or a specific multihull #sailingcourse to learn the nuances in detail.

+The Boating Hub look at the differences between monohull and multihull yachts/dinghies and the courses available.
