Former Davis Polk Partner Now Playing A Different Tune - Harry Ballan resigned from the partnership at Davis Polk & Wardwell to pursue a lifelong interest in music theory and neuroscience. Now senior counsel at the firm, Ballan is also a director at the Oliver Sacks' Institute for Music and Neurologic Function in The Bronx.

Court Cites Doctor's Inappropriate Testimony, Reverses Med-Mal Decision - In his 2012 medical malpractice trial, Dr. Samuel Maryles appeared in two capacities. He was the defendant. And he also served as an expert witness, in the eyes of the state Appellate Court. The court said the mixing of roles was improper, and the judges overturned a trial court verdict that had spared Maryles liability in a wrongful death case.

University, Town Go To Court Over Dorm Space Dispute - Quinnipiac University and its host town, Hamden, are feuding over just how much dormitory space the school is obligated to provide. This month, the private university sued the town and its Zoning Board of Appeals for issuing fines of $150 a day since February for what's being called noncompliance with a special permit.
