If you have an airplane registered outside of Oregon take note of this.
ORS 837.020 requires every pilot operating within Oregon to register with the Oregon Department of Aviation. By law, registration must take place within 60 days of issuance of any "appropriate effective federal certificate, permit, rating or license relating to competency as a pilot" - with the ...

Don't know. Just heard from an Oregon pilot on Twitter that this isn't enforced on local pilots, let alone transient pilots. Guess it's been on the books for 10 years or so.

The Spring 2014 locations for Beyond The Wx Brief in-person aviation weather workshop have been set.  If you missed attending this workshop last year or want to attend one again, here's your chance.  Beyond the Weather Brief is a two day workshop taught in person by CFI and former NWS meteorologist, Scott Dennstaedt.  This live workshop is designed to take the guesswork out of aviation weather planning.  The first day of the workshop is dedicated to learning how to interpret the Skew-T log (p) diagram.  The second day is filled with scenarios designed to teach pilots how to integrate the weather guidance found in the Internet Wx Brief Roadmap and to increase the pilot's situational awareness with respect to the weather.

Hope to see you at one of the following locations this spring...

April 5-6, Charlotte, North Carolina
May 17-18, Norman, Oklahoma
May 31-June 1, Las Vegas, Nevada
June 7-8, Denver, Colorado (still working out the details for the exact location in Denver)
Here's what others are saying about attending a live workshop... "I very much enjoyed the Beyond The Wx Brief program in Cincinnati last weekend. I learned a number of new things, made many notes for further investigation / study on the subject of applied meteorology for pilots, and had almost ...

After many years of not being able use the interactive version of the RUC soundings Java tool on the iPad, NOAA has finally developed a non-Java version of the tool.   More info in my blog below...
While still a work in progress, NOAA has finally succeeded in developing a non-java version of the interactive soundings display. The html5 code (which is really advanced Javascript) runs natively in most modern browsers without the need of a plugin - and you won't be inundated with security warning

Just in case anyone wishes to use Godaddy.com as their hosting company, just ran into a ridiculous limitation with their shared hosting.  Believe it or not, they do not allow more than 1024 files to exist in any single folder.  They claim that 1025 files in a folder will cause the file system to function slow and create a burden on the shared resources.  Really?  In 2013, they have a limitation of 1024 files per folder?  I would have expected better.

GoDaddy is notoriously lousy.  I use www.nearlyfreespeech.net for hosting.
