“Obesity is enormously expensive. Every year, it costs U.S. employers $73 billion in lost productivity. Even worse, America spends more than $150 billion annually on health care linked to obesity.” (Medical News Today)
“A sweeping review of shifts in the labor force since 1960 suggest that a sizable portion of the national weight gain can be explained by declining physical activity during the workday. Jobs requiring moderate physical, which accounted for 50 percent of the labor market in 1960, have plummeted to just 20 percent today.” ( PLoS One)
“The activity we get at work has to be intentional,” said Dr. Ainsworth. “When people think of obesity they always think of food first, and that’s one side of it, but it’s high time to look at the amount of time we spend inactive at work.” (New York Times)
About Birmingham Corporate Yoga
Birmingham Corporate Yoga began as a request from a yoga student’s friend for Jennifer to come to their workplace and teach a yoga class. The friend worked long hours and wanted to take yoga classes but could not find the time to make it to a studio or gym and attend one of Jennifer’s classes. From that very first class taught in a small office off Hwy 280, Birmingham Corporate yoga began. Jennifer had no idea at the time that it would turn into a thriving business. From that moment forward, Birmingham Corporate Yoga began to grow through word of mouth just as that very first class had started; a student telling their friend about Corporate Yoga. Before Jennifer knew it, she was traveling all over town bringing yoga into the workplace. From large utility companies, dentist offices, law firms, and financial institutions.
