This week I had the pleasure of doing the news roundup on Science Friday. It’s a fun challenge: talking rather than writing, performing live rather than drafting and revising, and distilling each story into a minute or two. In other words, the opposite of how I normally operate. Good times!

On this week's agenda: a starting date for the Anthropocene, a 365 million-year-old vernal pool, scientists push back on their vilification by the Malheur militants, and what chimpanzee trust means to us.
