this place is great! I highly recommend it. The food was obviously outstanding. I recommend the scallops for an appetizer. The location and atmosphere of the restaurant is great. It was very nice but also comfortable. What I loved most, though, was the outstanding service. The waiter was extremely friendly and genuine and really gave us a great experience. Definitely check this place out! Also, forgot to mention, they are very reasonably priced!

Meh. I was hoping for more since one of my friends raved about this place... but it was just okay. It's a cute little bistro looking place, that seems French-ish and has a cute little cart they roll around that carries all of the wine. Fancy, ingenious little thing there. We ordered the country pate, smoked salmon and escargot to start off. The escargot was too pesto-y for me, they should have cut back on the parsley. The smoked salmon was the best of the appetizers. I wasn't really a fan of the country pate. For the mains, my friend got a duck cassoulet and I got the fish of the day, which was a pan seared whitefish with carrot puree, some greens (maybe kale) and pine nuts. The fish was good... crispy on the outside and very flavorful. The duck wasn't bad either... but it wasn't great. For dessert, we ordered the profiterole--- which was too hard and dry. It should have been softer. BUT it was MASSIVE. The soft ice cream on the inside was delicious, and they drizzled hot chocolate sauce all over it. But still, the hardness of the pastry turned me off from on. The waiter was attentive all throughout--- and after he paid, he said for us to take our time, but then it seemed like we were being shooed out of the restaurant. Weird. Ahh so my search for a great French place in Chicago continues.

Mon Ami Gabi is a very good restaurant with delicious food and a great ambiance. The parking can be a bit of a hassle, but the valet is very quick and affordable!

While I enjoy the Lettuce Entertain You restaurants, Mon Ami Gabi has probably become my favorite. Honestly their take on a French restaurant has been on my list of places to eat at and I've only recently had a chance to stop in and enjoy! Growing up my father was always a huge fan of mousse's and pate. So when my wife suggested the chicken liver mouse I jumped on it and have to stress that there's no point in ordering any other appetizer. Add on the red wine mustard into the mix and it is truly delicious. (I could probably have a larger order of this as a meal to be honest!) I ended up ordering the steak frites with the brandy peppercorn sauce and she got the Hanger Steak. I couldn't tell you which is better. We also ordered the garlic spinach which had just the right amount of garlic to make it taste great and yet not be overbearing. This is the perfect spot for a date night. If you enjoy comfort French food you'll probably want to check out this reasonably priced spot with an intimate atmosphere.

Really liked this spot. Great atmosphere for a date and is pretty cute inside. The food was awesome and great prices. Got the filet and it was awesome! Had the banana crepe for dessert and it was nasty- just covered in syrup. Do not recommend it but recommend the steaks.

Mon Ami Gabi's atmosphere was very grand, unfortunately the food didn't match. The bisque was actually quite tasty, but the salmon & spinach salad was a bit pricey and bland and the vegetable farcis was very small and also bland. It's probably a great place for drinks and hors d'oeuvres, but maybe skip eating dinner there.

I felt like this was a great French dining experience! I had pasted it many times as I walked or ran down my street to get to Lincoln Park zoo. It always looked expensive so never thought to try it. I didn't get a chance to make a reservation, but the outdoor patio seating on the street-level is first-come, first-served. I would suggest making a reservation since they don't have a ton of seating. Both my dining partner & I got one of their steak-frites entrees and it was amazing! Highly recommend and it's a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant if you want to rack up some reward points.
