Introduction

Susan Shapiro is the new solo anchor of "News 8 at Noon," and is also a member of the "News 8 On Your Side Investigative Team."

She started at WGAL in 1981 as a reporter and at various times also anchored the morning and weekend news reports.

Before joining the News 8 staff, Susan was an anchor and reporter at WTAJ-TV in Altoona, Pa. She has also worked as a research assistant for Philadelphia Magazine.

Susan has received numerous awards and honors for her reporting. They include a 2005 Mid-Atlantic Region Emmy for individual achievement for feature reporting, a 1992 Emmy Award for spot news, a number of Associated Press Broadcasters Awards and a Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Award for her investigative report on puppy mills.

Susan is on the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Regional Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, a past member of the board of Lancaster County Safe Kids and a current member of the board of the Rocky Springs Carousel Association. She is also one of the hosts of the Children's Miracle Network Telethon on WGAL-TV. She helps promote the March of Dimes Walk America and the American Heart Walk.

A native of Philadelphia, Susan received her bachelor of arts in journalism from Pennsylvania State University. She also studied British mass media at Manchester University in England.
