My boss always raves about this place! And he's Italian so I figured that he must know good Italian food when he eats it. I decided to try this place with a longtime childhood friend of mine around 1:15pm. The place was about half full with people dressed in business suits finishing up their lunch. They only had one table for two available outside at the time so my friend and I decided to sit at the bar. Took about 10 min for us to get acknowledged because the bartender was so busy making drinks the whole time.

Great vibe, the bar tender Jake is super hospitable, friendly and sweet. The drinks he recommended were perfect. Would come here again!

The food was pretty good. This is one of the restaurants in the city. Everything was well done and well prepared.

Appetizers: -Chicken liver and foi gras parfait: good but not as good as I was hoping. -Broiled oysters: ridiculously good. Would come back to order this alone. -Bitter greens: oddly addictive. Mains: Tomahawk: perfectly cooked and delicious. Did not disappoint. Well rested and perfectly seasoned. Bowery cut: honestly- just ok. The ribeye deckle is the best part of a cow, but this was nothing special and not worth getting again. Not bad, just not that good. Cocktails: we tried two of the house cocktails and they were not good. We then switched to a glass of Cabernet each and that wasn't very good either. Should have just ordered a bottle like we usually do. Waste of $75 or so for drinks we did not enjoy. Will be back for the oysters and to try different cuts- maybe the t-bone florentine or the ny strip.

Doorman Patrick and his sidekick Mauricio are complete jerks. I showed up with my girlfriend and we had a reservation. He still would not let us in without any reason provided. We were dressed appropriately (and again had a reservation). Do not waste you time at this place - too many great places to go out in NYC. I've lived here for five years and have never experienced such self- righteousness and pretentiousness, even at the most high end bars and clubs. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. If the owners read this, I would seriously suggest you reconsider your doormen and strategy (from one business owner to another).

This is a nice restaurant and bar, (Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate is remarkable) but I don't think the doorman is always reasonable. I live 1 street down and whenever my friends visit from Europe, I want to show them Acme, but just because I am never sure how Patrick's mood would be that day, I change my mind and take them to some place else. Sometimes I think they are targeting college kids who are obsessed with getting into bars with tough doors. I hope that's not the case.

Never been disappointed. If it's on the menu, it's good.
