Why your hotel needs a Google Business View virtual tour

5 reasons why your hotel needs a virtual tour with Google Business View

Google Indoor Street View is ideal for businesses which welcome people into their space. This is particularly applicable to the accommodation and travel industry. Based on the success of Street View, it’s no surprise that many businesses have been quick to add their own Virtual Tour and take advantage of this innovative marketing tool. If you’re a hotel owner or accommodation provider, here’s 5 reasons why you should invite customers inside your business with an interior Virtual Tour.

Google Business View across computer and mobile organic search results
Enhance your presence across Google with a premium-quality, 360º virtual tour powered by Street View technology.
Competitive advantage

Featuring a Google Business Interior View will grant you an instant advantage over your competitors. Your Google Virtual Tour will be displayed to the right of Google’s organic search results with a “See Inside” call-to-action. This makes your business’ presence more colourful, eye-catching and stimulating. Your hotel can gain more attention than the local competition while evening the field against larger companies and chains located nearby.

Hilton Worldwide has stated that 78 of its properties now offer Virtual Tours on Google’s site. Geraldine Calpin, Hilton’s global head of digital, said more web visitors book rooms after viewing those virtual tours. Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, owner of the Radisson brand, has also introduced virtual tours (The Wall Street Journal, 8 April 2014). Your Virtual Tour will appear to customers on Google Maps, Google+ Local and organic Google searches. You can also choose to imbed your Google Business View tour on your website or social media channels such as Facebook. This tool will direct more visitors to your website, which means increased customers and more frequent returns.

First impressions mean everything

Let’s say you are booking accommodation in Sydney. Are you more likely to stay at a hotel with a virtual tour showing the size and décor of an available room, or would you choose to book online through a website with Comic Sans font and just a few photos? With this immersive imagery, potential customers can easily imagine themselves within a business and deicide if they would like to visit in person. This means that Business Interior View is your chance to highlight all the “bells and whistles” that your hotel has to offer, taking customers directly to the foyer, rooms, pool, gym and restaurant.

Level of detail

When you “open your doors” online and invite customers on a virtual tour of your business, you are giving them a level of detail beyond what text and still photographs could possibly convey. In doing so, you are legitimising your business. Any business can have a well-designed website, and clever angles can easily create photographs which hide or emphasise certain aspects of a room. Google Business Interior View allows users to confirm that the business really does match the descriptions and photographs.

Encouraging positive reviews online

Small to mid-sized businesses are particularly more sensitive to reviews because they have a big impact on future customers. Accommodation is something which travellers must purchase without first seeing the room or apartment in-person. Virtual Tours assist in managing expectations, allowing customers to accurately judge a hotel’s décor, size and amenities before booking. If their experience matches or exceeds their expectations, a guest’s positive opinion of the hotel will be reflected when reviewing online.

Entertainment value

Street View gained its popularity not only for allowing users to visualise their destination instead of interpreting a 2D map, but also because it’s fun to use. Google Street View roams far and wide, from the world’s greatest landmarks to quiet suburban streets. A couch-bound explorer can travel the world with just a few clicks. Google has begun to stitch Street View with Business View to create one fluid virtual experience. What was once a limited view of streets and building exteriors now allows for continued exploration inside these businesses. The entertainment value of this panoramic tour of your business will result in more time spent on your website, increasing its “stickiness” for visitors.

Fáilte Ireland borrow Google Trekker

A ‘Trekker Loan’ Will Allow Many of Ireland’s Most Beautiful and Remote Spots to be Captured for Google Street View

Fáilte Ireland will be borrowing the Google Trekker over the next three months to capture many of Ireland’s remotest tourism beauty spots which haven’t yet been captured by Google Street View. The Google Trekker is being accessed through Google’s ‘Trekker Loan Programme’ and can be used to capture Street View imagery in remote places where the car can’t go. Over the next several weeks, Fáilte Ireland will be capturing footage of many places people have not been able to see online before and will be literally putting some of our most beautiful sights on the map.

The Trekker is a wearable backpack, with a camera system on top, designed by Google. The Trekker can be walked through pedestrian walkways or trails on foot, and automatically gathers images as it goes. Starting along the Wild Atlantic Way this week, Fáilte Ireland employees will be capturing sights such as islands like Inishbofin, Achill, the Blaskets and Dun Aengus on Inish Mor as well as other significant destinations such as Sliabh Liag, Croagh Patrick and Mizen Head.

Fáilte Ireland will also be borrowing the Trekker to capture many of the highlights of ‘Ireland’s Ancient East’, including the narrow streets of medieval towns, the grounds of stately homes and iconic attractions such as Newgrange. The specialised camera will also be used to capture parts of the Dublin experience, particularly many scenic walks in places such as Howth Head, Sandycove and the Royal Canal.

Speaking today about the benefit of employing the Google Trekker, Daragh Anglim, Fáilte Ireland’s Head of Digital emphasised:

“Six out of ten visitors to Ireland last year cited the internet as an influence when choosing the country as a destination. Three quarters of visitors told us that they use the internet to plan their itinerary here before arriving. The use of Google Trekker is therefore a welcome addition to Fáilte Ireland’s significant engagement with digital and social media to promote Ireland.

”When finally captured and uploaded, we hope that millions worldwide get to explore very beautiful and attractive images of some of our remotest parts through Google street view. We also hope that these images inspire many viewers to subsequently make the crucial decision to come over here to see the real thing.”

The Trekker is the newest piece of equipment in Google’s fleet of Street View technologies including the Car, Trike, Snowmobile and others. To learn more about these, you can click HERE.

Commenting on the advantages this technology can bring to tourism, Laurian Clemence, Communications Manager with Google, said:

“We are delighted to be partnering with Fáilte Ireland in order to bring Street View imagery to an area of the world that is rich in heritage and known for its outstanding natural beauty; which anyone across the world will be able to access directly from their smartphones or computer via Google Maps, and encourage many to visit.”

The footage captured over the next few weeks will be processed by Google and made available in early 2016 – giving people all over the world an even better view of what Ireland has to offer in terms of walks and landscapes. – Read more at:

Virtual Tours Help Double Interest In Business Listing

Those who view a listing with a virtual tour are twice as likely to be interested in booking a reservation there.
And among 18-34 year-olds in particular, prospects are 130% more likely to book based on a tour.

Among people surveyed, 67% want more business listings to have virtual tours.
Of the remainder, 26% were indifferent, and 7% stated that more virtual tours were unnecessary.

When searching for restaurants and hotels online, 62% of people use Google

Quantitative market research was conducted in July 2015 by an independent market research firm to understand the impact of virtual tours on increasing consumers’ interest in local businesses (specifically in booking a reservation at a hotel or restaurant).
An online survey was conducted with consumers who had searched online for a restaurant or hotel within the previous 30 days (using any device).
A total sample of 1201 respondents was collected between July 21st and August 2nd, 2015.
Different versions of a local business listing (one for a hotel, the other for a restaurant) were created to include basic info, photos and/or a virtual tour (the same media were used to create each version).
Respondents were asked to view one of the different versions for each business (in a randomised order). Each respondent viewed:
1 hotel listing + 1 restaurant listing; and
1 listing with a virtual tour + 1 listing without a virtual tour.
Note: Presentation of alternate listings were randomised evenly and consistently throughout field.
After viewing each listing, respondents were instructed to rate their interest in booking a reservation.
Ratings for alternate listings (with a tour versus without) were aggregated to understand impact of virtual tours on interest in the featured business.
