DeKalb partnered with QCC to create and implement a plan that will help promote the importance of becoming Quality Rated to child care providers as well as recruit them to participate and provide technical support during the lengthy rating process.
DeKalb also is providing extra financial support and initiatives to aid the providers in their application process and as they meet specific goals. QCC will kick off its work with DeKalb with a goal of reaching 100 Quality Rated providers by the end of the year and 200 by the end of 2016.

Gregory Goodwin is retiring as principal of Redan High in Stone Mountain, but not from the community he has been a part of for his whole career.
“I’ll still be around, and if they need me to do whatever, I’ll help out when needed,” he said on June 2. “Redan will always be a part of me.”

Small-business owners in Stone Mountain can apply for grants up to $1,000 to give their enterprises a little lift. The new grant program, BOOST Stone Mountain, is funded by local “investors” who want to see small businesses thrive in the village. The first round of applications will be accepted through July 1 and awarded on July 31.

Candler Road Senior Center completion ‘close’

Repairs are coming along on the long-awaited Candler Road Senior Center in Decatur, but DeKalb County still will not commit to an opening date.

The Development Authority of DeKalb has unveiled their new name and branding.

Charged with leading the county’s charge for economic development, Decide DeKalb also has a new tag line, “Invest Connect Thrive.”

The authority’s board of directors unveiled the new name and branding campaign at its 40th anniversary celebration on May 27 at Agnes Scott College in Decatur.

Wrongful death lawsuit filed by family of man killed by police cruiser

Surveillance video released by the police department shows the cruiser was going at least twice the 35 miles per hour speed limit when it struck Bernard Moore on March 6. The officer in question has not been arrested, charged, ticketed or indicted and the family's lawyer says the lack of disciplinary action could erode public confidence in police.
